Claims clerks wouldn't let her use restroom to fix leg
Starbucks is getting serious about their rule that says people can't use the restroom unless they buy something, and now they've found themselves in hot water because of it.
A Central Valley woman is suing the coffee shop company after a clerk denied her bathroom priviledges to fix her prosthetic leg, because she had not purchased something first.
The Snitch reports Janet Marx has filed a complaint against an El Dorado Avenue Starbucks, stating that when she went to use the restroom to repair a loose screw on her prosthetic leg, she was chased down by a barista who stopped her from entering the facility.
The claim states, "The clerk also said I can't be nice to anyone unless they purchase an item. Plaintiff turned and looked at another clerk who knew that plaintiff was disabled and told him she does not understand. The male clerk indicated there was nothing he could do."
During the whole incident, Marx stood holding the leg up to prevent it from dropping.
Marx also said she saw other patrons using the bathroom first without making a purchase.
Marx is seeking statutory damages for disability discrimination, costs, and attorneys fees.
But if you let one amputee through, you’ll have hundreds more. You got to know when to put your foot.. aah leg down.
A good friend has two prosthetic legs. He would have said “Okay”, sat down at a table near the door, and proceeded to remove and work on his leg right there. Anyone who voiced complaint at that point would likely be threatened (at the least) with being thrashed with said appendage.
Shyster Bonanza!
Ah, the compassionate left.
Second;
Marx also said she saw other patrons using the bathroom first without making a purchase.
If they didn't purchase anything, they're not patrons, now are they?
So Starbuck's defense will be that the woman has a screw loose and doesn't have a leg to stand on...
Rim Shot
There is something to be said for mercy.
“This ain’t IHOP lady. Buy sumpin or get out.”
I’ve laughed at a lot of things today, but you took the cake........
“There is something to be said for mercy.”
There is, but it can’t be forced.
The government should not require any and all businesses to provide any and all people bathrooms.
I do long distance (8-15 miles) with a group of women. We go into a Starbucks on one of our routes and use both the men’s and the women’s restrooms. No one has stopped us yet. There are about 8 of us and we’re mostly over 50 so I’m guessing that they are just scared of us. Hehe.
I don’t think her case has a leg to stand on.
Sounds like she should have gone to a hardware store instead of a Starbucks.
Yup, ADA accommodation violation. And rude. Hannibal Lecter would know what to do.
Reportedly, the Starbucks clerk told the victim to “shake a leg!”
When selling propane in the state of CT, The person who dispenses the propane can NOT load the propane tank into the customer’s vehicle.
When I was 25 I got a job at a gas station, and I received my Propane certifications. A pregnant woman arrived and asked if I could put the tank in the car. I did.
Lost my job too. Don’t regret a thing.
That is horrible, but so damn funny.
