Right about now, you're probably starting to receive Christmas cards from friends and family. It's pretty safe to assume that most of them are adorned with candid shots of smiling faces, and some even have a picture of the newest addition to the family: a kid or man's best friend. Well a Christmas card from San Juan's mayor just earned him a spot on the famous blog "AwkwardFamilyPhoto.com."...

If you could get those two pooches to wear those little santa hats and pose like that.... it would be a very cool Christmas card!!
“What happened to the lion lying down with the lamb?”
The lamb didn’t get much sleep...
Merry Christmas from a wise Latino!
The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them.
But the impala is s-— out of luck.
Oh, a look-at-what-the-government-has-done-for-you card with Christmas thrown in.
I love the way you put that. It’s called a dangling
participle (I think). Walking on the ceiling, I saw a fly.
You got my creative juices flowing. We still have time to kill another deer, string it up from the tree, gut it and then lower the deer by cutting down the tree. A photo montage of that should make a fine Christmas card.
The leopard killing the gazelle is from the San Juan Wildlife Museum, a city-built museum with hundreds of exhibits on African and North American animals (most of the taxidermy was donated by a local hunter who was looking for a forum to show off his kills) that was inaugurated this year. Mayor Santini has been promoting the museum so as to increase (paid) attendance and show that the city’s investment paid off not only with respect to educating kids (its a popular field-trip destination), but in attracting tourists and maybe even turning a profit.
Apparently the Mayor sent out Christmas cards with different pictures of his family taken at the museum, some standing in front of stuffed and mounted bears, and this one in front of the leopard killing the gazelle. This particular one may not have been the most appropriate for a Christmas card, but Mayor Santini probably included it because he or one of his kids liked that exhibit.
I don’t know if Mayor Santini is a hunter himself, but he is an avid gun enthusiast and a conservative Republican, and was targeted by the Brady Coalition in his 2004 reelection for being the mayor of the largest U.S. city (San Juan’s population is around 425,000) to have supported the repeal of the federal assault-weapons ban.
“...string it up from the tree...”
Hang it from your decorated Christmas tree! (I don’t know - with a 2x4 from the tree to the mantel over your fireplace - or the dining room chandeler perhaps?)
“Hey - the guy at the shop said to hang it from my tree!”
..never crossed my mind this was a violent photo.... strange, but not violent.
Hmmm. Must have something to do with Festivus, perhaps “the airing of grievances” or “feats of strength.”
I’m STILL looking for the fifth volume (Statesman) in that series.
I can't find the fifth one (in front of the huge elephant at the entrance of the museum).

That is exactly the kind of post I come to FR for. When context matters, MSM doesn’t. Thanks for a little more info.
You’re welcome, FRiend.
