Anyone seen "Hugo"?
me

Posted on 11/28/2011 7:08:52 PM PST by nuconvert

Just wondered if anyone had seen Scorsese's new 3D movie, "Hugo".

I saw it this weekend and enjoyed it and wondered what others thought?

(you might want to avoid reading this thread if you haven't seen it yet)

Out of four people I know who saw it, one fell asleep and the other three said skip it until the last thirty minutes...

Everything I read said visually it was brilliant, the story was not so much.
It went on our NetFlix list.

I’ll go check it out. Meanwhile, I’m watching Brees and the Saints smacking the Giants. 21-3 at the half.

I thought you were talking about Hugo Chavez.

Nobody’s seen him either.

I was hoping it’d be on DVD by Christmas. I want to see it again and again and again. Our cat is an orange tabby. That dance scene is a riot!!!!!

Slow, too long, but absolutely stunning photography.

Appears to be one of those “movies the director always wanted to make,” which isn’t always a movie anyone else wants to see.

It was charming, but not sure it was worth the $13 being charged for tickets! 3D definitely enhanced the pleasure, but again, some will wonder whether it’s really worth the extra cost.

I saw it with three of my sons this weekend. I really did not know what it was about but the animation looked interesting and it was Scorcese, after all. Since my kids recommended it I figured it was a sci-fi story about a boy and his robot. I had no idea what I was in for.

It was extraordinary. Delightful. Charming. And it did not seem too long at all as I enjoyed the story and was thoroughly enraptured by the visuals. What surprised me was that it is really about the magic of making movies. Based in the story of one of the cinema’s real pioneers, Georges Melies, it clearly captured the heart of making art and it’s power to enrich our lives. it was about loss and recovery and the power of love and the efficacy of art as an instrument of healing.

The mix of live actors and animation is the best I’ve ever seen. Perfectly appropriate since Melies was such a master of special effects himself.

So in case anyone is wondering, I give it 4 out of 4 stars. See it.
