As much as a lot of college football fans (and ESPN analysts) would hate to admit it, Case Keenum of Houston has to be regarded as a solid contender for the Heisman.

Every game means something until all hell breaks loose and you have the possibility of a number of one or two loss teams. As far as I am concerned let the teams decide it on the field in a one-and-done format. Sure there will be some first round mismatches, but the remaining rounds will make for some great games, especially if the higher seed gets home field advantage. The small schools play a tournament and fans of those schools have a great time (I’m one of them, my alma mater is a 1-AA school (go North Dakota State)).

Should be an easy game for Iowa. Pelini has filled the coaching staff with his relatives and buddies.

1. The defensive coordinator is the head coach’s brother and this is the worst defense we have had since prior to his arrival.

2. The offensive coordinator is from Pelini’s home town and was never a OC prior to this season.

3. The receiver’s coach was coaching high school players and golf last season - and our receivers still drop passes like they did under Ted Gilmore.

4. The offensive line coach has three sons on the team and our line has not improved in his four years on the job.

5. The defensive backs coach is a buddy of the head coach.

Iowa by 21.

Yes, great weekend of college ball.

And lost in all the excitement was a bizarre finish with the Seminoles and Cavs. It's worth watching the replay of the final minutes of that contest.

click on the link above - it will bring up a menu of games that ESPN will replay - click on the Florida State/Virginia game and it will bring up the game. You can speed up the game as you wish and take it to the finish

I mostly ignored the LSU-Ole Miss game since it was so lopsided. But while watching Sports Center, I just now saw that Les Miles had the Tigguz take a knee four times instead of going for a TD just yards away from the goal line.

What do you think? Was this a classy move to avoid RUTSing even more or was it an insulting form of charity to the Rebels?

you are welcome - sometimes it’s nice to hear the announcers and the plays that build up to a finish

Miles is a good dude. No matter what he would have done, he would catch some flak for it.

Lots will be said about it this week, pro and con. I probably would have done the same thing.

Good luck to Houston Nutt.

This was the 100th meeting of LSU - Old Miss, per the announcers. It was also the most lopsided they have played. I wondered if it would be considered rubbing it in, but it really came down to, “What’s the point in running up a score on a team we play every year?”

“What’s the point in running up a score on a team we play every year?”

It never stopped John Heisman and his 222-0 victory with Tech over Cumberland. His halftime speech had to be memorable. :-)

I think one of the most painful to watch RUTS was the final game with Gerry Faust at Notre Dame when Jimmy Johnson had his Miami Hurricanes humiliate the Irish 58-7.

On the other hand, the four calls by LSU taking a knee seemed to be taking pity on Ole Miss. I'm undecided about what's more humiliating to an opponent: keep pounding away and scoring or showing this form of charity. I'm sure there's a liberal vs. Conservative stance on this matter! :-)

It was a classy move, there is no reason to score again.

It is called good sportsmanship.

I know in this culture, where chest pounding occurs after every play, the rule of the good sportsman was not to humiliate a foe

Hold your horses. If the Tigers beat Arkansas they still have to go to Atlanta to play Georgia for the SEC Championship before any national championship game

To make it worse, LSU had tried to run into the pile before that point to simply run clock on previous drives. They scored at least one touchdown that way.

I thought replays were only supposed to reverse obviously bad calls made by the refs on the field. If they have to look at replays for five minutes, what is obvious to me is that whatever the original call was, it was not obviously wrong.

i’m well aware of that...i’m also well aware UGA, who barely beat UK today, has no chance against LSU....
