Republican Sen. John McCain is ripping presidential candidates in his party who insist waterboarding is an effective technique for interrogating suspected terrorists.
The Arizona lawmakerwho was tortured himself while a prisoner of war in Vietnam said the controversial practice was both illegal and ineffective on Monday evening.
Very disappointed by statements at SC GOP debate supporting waterboarding, he tweeted. Waterboarding is torture.
McCain, who ran for President in 2008, elaborated on CNN later, arguing, If you put enough physical pain on somebody, they will tell you whatever they think that you want to hear in order for the pain to stop.
The lawmaker was speaking specifically to remarks made by former pizza business magnate Herman Cain and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann at Saturdays Republican presidential debate.

...McCain suggested endorsing the technique was hypocritical.
Ask any military lawyer; ask any person who knows about the Geneva conventions that we're signatories to. We actually prosecuted Japanese war criminals specifically for the act of waterboarding against Americans, he said.

Stuff it Juan.
Looks like McQueeg is alive and well. To bad he as lost his sanity.
Maybe McCain could tell us when Al Qaida signed the Geneva Conventions? What ever happened to “If you don’t abide by the rules, you can’t expect your enemy to do likewise”?
I was going to add that his daughter did not fall far from the tree. Apparently she wound up next to the trunk.
John McCAN’T needs to STFU and go away. Waterboarding IS NOT torture.
sorry but I think anything around the McCain house that can be stuffed already has been - into his daughter!
From what I can tell, McCain has been waterboarded no more often than Cain or Bachmann has - meaning Cain and Bachmann are just as expert on waterboarding as McCain is.
Being tortured 65 years ago does not make one an expert on every damned thing — but it makes them think they are apparently.
.
John who? Oh, the guy from the movie, that little pipsqueek, Capt. McQueg?
The McCain opens his mouth and psuedo liberal flip flopping compromise feel good junk come out. I’m shocked.
Perhaps someone should waterboard Sen McQuack himself.
McCain is totally deranged.
The Geneva convention doesn't cover guerrilla warfare.
What the Japanese did was the real thing that killed, what we did was a faked version to scare folks without harming them.
What McCain encountered in VietNam was the real thing, and he admitted in his books that he broke and told what he knew.
Real torture works. We stopped giving court martials for folks who broke and talked under torture because the military decided that it can't be helped.
It turns out that fake torture, just scaring folks, worked too.
stfu Juan McCaino!
I say Waterboarding is humane!
Shut your piehole John nobody asked you.
Well I see he’s back to being the media darling again!
Cindie
Who gives a damn what Fecalhead McCain has to say. He was a lousy candidate and and has a sorry offspring. He was so damned stupified in the debates against Obama that he gave the presidency to him. And Romney is no better. McCain was a dud in the military and he was a dud as a nominee. He should roll over and pull the dirt in on top of him. Harsh? Well, I just didn’t have the words in me.
