SatireWire ^ | 2001?

For family members, it is often the most difficult and painful decision they will face: to accept that a loved one — a parent, a spouse, perhaps a sibling — is technologically impaired and should no longer be allowed to live independently, or come near a computer or electronic device without direct supervision. The time has come to place that loved one into the care of an Assisted Computing Facility. But you have questions. So many questions. We at Silicon Pines want to help.

Well, my PC is almost always on, so texting is easy.

You can text (I think) pretty much any cell phone in the world by sending an email to XXXYYYZZZZ @ txt.att.net where XXXYYYZZZZ is the phone number.

Much easier than trying to figure out how to make letters with a digital keypad!

I can Google but not much else.

To truly require this facility you need to have said, "I can use THE google".

Oh! -- at first I thought it wasn't real, and I was just looking at it as a joke. Then when the music started, it dawned on me that it IS real, and I busted out laughing.

Thanks for the good laugh -- I needed it.

It looks familiar. I think I used it to figure out a simple frames interface for an information DVD I made for my unit in Afghanistan. I also had to incorporate a couple of lines of Javascript in order to make two frames change with one link clicked. High-tech stuff!

Thank you, Gargoyle! I am going to have my son sit down with me when he has a bit of time and tutor me. I figure after teaching him to walk, use the potty etc... he owes me that much. I am (unfortunately) the type of person that needs someone to actually show me rather than me teach myself (at least with computers). Other things I can do with ease.

...I've only recently started studying computer basics. I've seen original source DOCTYPE before, didn't pay it much attention. The w3c.org site is high-tech all right. Found the school.com site there. I'm fascinated by this stuff now. I have every link or tech site I find on file. It's helped me learn HTML computer skills I've neglected for a long time.

...I was in the Residential building trades for 25 years, now, nothing. If I get certified, it might help in finding employment. After all, one PC, web access and you can work from home. unit in Afghanistan Hmmm, Armed Forces? Best to you, my dad was Navy officer. Shipboard mostly, one year in Saigon for the winter Tet buildup. Like he told me, you keep your head down and don't get your ass shot off. Hope you fair well. (-;) RIP, Pop

Tried sending a FAX a few weeks ago to some oldsters in Pittsburgh.

I swear, it was like communicating with the 19th century.

Pennsylvania has a lot of old-school communities, although some people think that’s an unfair characterization. One Amish critic of this view tried sending a rebuttal via a blackberry, but unfortunately it was an actual blackberry.

/stolen joke alert
