National Instruments to Make Instrumentation for E-Cat Plants

PESWiki is reporting that Andrea Rossi’s Leonardo Corporation has signed an agreement with National Instruments of Austin, Texas for NI to provide all the instrumentation for the E-Cat plants that Leonardo Corp will be manufacturing. Sterling D. Allan of PESN reports that he learned of the agreement during a conference call with Rossi, and that NI’s Director of Physics, Stefano Concezzi confirmed to him (Allan) that Rossi was a customer.

National Intstruments is a leading provider of advanced hardware and software that is used in industrial and scientific applications around the world, and should be able to provide Leonardo Corporation with instrumentation of much higher quality and far more advanced capabilities than Rossi has been using so far with the E-Cat devices he has built. During recent testing Rossi himself has been the manual controller during the self-sustaining periods of all the demonstrations of the E-Cat done to date, but he has said that in mass produced E-Cats, the control of the E-Cat reactors would need to be done automatically.

It would seem that NI would be the kind of company who would have the skills and experience to design the automated control systems that will be needed to ensure E-Cats run stably and safety.

The quality of NI instrumentation should also make it much easier to get accurate measurements of such things as water flow rates, temperature levels and steam quality that have been difficult to hard to ascertain from the public demonstrations that have been carried out to date. Many analysts have been dissatisfied with the measurement instruments that Rossi has been using, and the methodology that has been employed in the testing.

With hardware, software and expert advice from National Instruments, there could be rapid improvements of the E-Cats coming soon.

UPDATE: Not only is there no denial about this story from National Instruments, at the foot of the PESWiki piece is this note from Sterling Allan:

Daniele Passerini, of the 22Passi Blog says the National Instruments relationship had been know to him for some time. He writes:

Why not contact them yourself if you doubt it? As I noted above, if NI has been contacted by Rossi to supply instrumentation it does nothing to prove whether this is a hoax or not. There could be no follow-thru, or the instrumentation could wind up being a facade, or it could be the real thing. But if it is real this is one piece of the puzzle as we watch something momentous come together.

Why even waste time on a topic if you are so convinced that each and every piece of data on the subject is indicative of a lie, pre-emptively so that you don't even try to verify it? I see the close-minded folks whine about Kevmo and myself wasting others time, but nothing forces you to read a post. Instead you waste the time of those of us who are looking for data, as we try to read each post of a thread trying to gain actual knowledge.

It wouldn't be efficient (or polite) for everyone to launch their own investigation of the source of this.

It's not at all uncommon for scammers to make up announcements about major companies being involved in their "business opportunity". HERE is coverage of Carl Tilly's scam, which included, among other things, a press release that General Electric was prepared to "buy them out, sight unseen, for $2 billion".

Interestingly enough, this links to the same web site that published the notice of Rossi's deal with National Instruments. It appears that they were giving Tilley uncritical coverage and support until it became obvious that it was a fraud.

Even better, the man who "broke" this story (Rossi and NI), is in fact the same guy who was a supporter of Tilley. HERE is his glowing review of the electric car that never needed recharging.

He also is a true believer in some "magnetic motor" that runs without any source of energy (i.e. a perpetual motion machine).

He is, at best, gullible. He certainly is not a credible source of information.

I appreciate your points about PESWiki and this author and their other interests (I am as skeptical as you could be regarding these other energy claims, which I have always ignored/dismissed).

Still, it is somewhat apples and oranges to dismiss the NI report because of the author's gullibility regarding other energy production claims. Either Rossi has a business relationship with NI or he does not. And either the author received information on that relationship or not. It's not a matter if him blindly trusting in someone's claims. He said he was on a conference call with Rossi himself when he got the information, and then other confirmatory emails are cited at the end of the article.

So either a skeptic needs to widen their circle of skepticism from Rossi to this fellow (who is not merely gullible but dishonest as well if the confirmatory email is an invention of his), or the author has simply reported something accurately. What to make of that report, assuming it's true, is food for thought and why I posted this article.

Some of the better comments from Stirling D. Allan's article on the Tilley "self-charging" motor [my comments in brackets]:

• Skeptics abound when it comes to the purported self-charging battery system being produced by the Tilley Foundation. [With good reason, since it was a scam.]
• Speculation has abounded as to what fuels the Tilley black box charger system. But the Foundation remains tight-lipped, only showing the resulting product such as cars converted to electric that travel on their batteries far longer than they could otherwise. [Hmm... Inventor who won't explain how his device works, but relies on "demonstrations". Where have we seen that recently?]
• Most recently they ran an all-terrain vehicle hard for twenty hours with two riders, including an electrical engineer. Without the magic charger device, the batteries only lasted a couple of hours. With the self- charger device, the batteries were still fully charged at the end of 20 hours. This product they call the TATV for Tilley ATV. [Pretty impressive demonstration! Of course, it was later proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was a scam all along.]
• Not all demonstrations have gone so well, though the failures have been mostly due to non-tilley-technology factors. [I guess he must be honest, since not all his demonstrations work as well as he claimed they would.]
• Critics argue that Tilley’s tactics smack of a scam artist — ever showing superficial demonstrations that do not exhibit the core technol- ogy under scrutiny of qualified independent engineers. Critics want to see the technology reduced to a bench model that can be tested pub- licly independent of any add-on bells and whistles. [Good for the critics!]
• If the Tilley Foundation were collecting money from people, then these accusations would need to be taken more seriously. [Where have we heard this recently?]
• Once the contract is signed, that party, which at this time does not wish to be known publicly, will then begin the process of preparing the technology for manufacturing, along with its various applications. They plan to license out the marketing rights for the various iterations to interested third parties. [Oh, look! Tilley had a "secret customer" too!]

Given his obvious gullibility, I wouldn't trust him to verify any aspect of this.

Did he contact National Instruments? Or did he accept Rossi's word that the person on the other end of the phone was, in fact, a representative? Did he get emails directly from NI? Or did Rossi forward him something that looked like an email from NI?

Maybe this business relationship is real. When (if) we see NI make a public statement (i.e. a press release actually released to the press, or a notice on their web site) then it will be clear that this is true.

But just because Stirling Alan says that Rossi says that it's real doesn't make it real.

Rossi's finally doing something that any competent and legitimate engineer would have done months or years ago without fanfare, but when Rossi does it, it's big news. Why should oil kill Edison. His invention has no impact on them. Coal barons will love it because it means every city will need power plants, not just individual factories. Read how ruthless the oil barons were to achieve monopoly. A lot of good small operators paid the price in fortune and sometimes with their lives.

As I mentioned above, Tilley claimed to his stockholders that G.E. was ready to buy the company for $2 billion (which was a lie). The only reason I think it might be real is that Rossi is now so high-profile that N.I. would hear about it. Rossi isn't stupid enough to risk having N.I. publicly contradict him.

We'll see. There is always the chance that Rossi is legit, although I have trouble believing that anyone could make a legitimate "breakthrough" look so much like a con job.

Even if this is true, it may only mean that Rossi has placed an order for controllers. I'm sure N.I. will happily sell controllers to anyone, even Rossi. Whether he actually pays for them, and whether he actually has fusion reactors to hook them up to remains to be seen.

I said whale oil. Prior to the lightbulb, the whaling industry was one of the most profitable industries, akin to petroleum nowadays, because whale oil was a prime source of clean lamp oil. Edison put them out of business.
