HUMPTULIPS, Wash. - When heading north on Highway 101, the first house you come to in Humptulips is the Aldrich's place.
The manicured yard is a trademark of the family that's been here for decades.
"Just nice, older people," said Karen Willis.
Neighbors are just sick about what happened to Ralph and June Aldrich. Prosecutors say 31-year-old John Chase was walking down the highway when he saw Ralph Aldrich, 88, in his back yard. Detectives say Chase shot and killed Aldrich with a crossbow and then went inside the home and repeatedly hit 83-year-old June Aldrich with a hatchet.
Good reason for packing at all times, even on your own property.
My folks were home one day, they are also rural, when a jeep came driving across their bridge right past their house and up the hill, rolling over at the top. Occupants had stolen the vehicle and were evading local law enforcement. Heavy wooded area behind them the perps ran into, Dad armed himself and mom called 911, soon the place was swarming with LEO. Bad guys were caught later.
Prayers up for Mrs. Aldrich.
Very sad
Crazy story about a crazy person.
We had a nutjob in a dress kill a woman with a hammer and take her head home a few weeks back. He said she was emanating “rays” at him.
Good reason for packing at all times, even on your own property.

There is no safe place anymore. The streets of Oakland, our border areas, you name it. As this poor couple experienced, you cannot be too safe about safety....even at your own home.
It's always meth.
There never was.
Wow...my neckk of the woods so to speak & this is the first I’ve heard of this....
Hang the perp at sunrise tomorrow. Final solution.
Chain a rock to his legs and dump him in a river. A deep river.
Good Lord! I have dense woods running along my lot line but their is no way out, a big river blocks that outlet 500ft in. I keep .40 .22 and .223 loaded at all times but when mowing the lawn, I don’t carry.
Pleased to say my wife is a great shot with her Smith & Wesson .357. She put Crimson Trace grips on it some time ago and when I'm out of town for work or hunting I know she can defend herself. Having a couple of outside dogs help too.
A trust that God will cover the bases I may have left out...
And I’d supply the rope.
We all do... we all do.
Sounds like the guy is obsessed with “The Walking Dead”. Obsessed to Manson-like levels.
Really it only has to be an inch above his head.
Hey, the scavengers need food, too.
1911 and 911--a good combination.
Gotta love a pistol packin' mama.
.
Having a couple of outside dogs help too.
My Dad's theory was big dog/little dog. A Boston Terrier for early warning--nothing evades their attention, and a German Shepherd mix for enforcement. As an additional backup there was the semi-auto he brought back from the war, and if worse came to worst, he himself, at 6-4 with experience as a WWII commando, as a post WWII judo instructor, and as a pre-/post WWII street thug.
