Media eCat Story Evolves

admin on November 6, 2011 — 27 Comments

The number of media organisations dipping toes into the eCat story continues to grow. From Fox to MSNBC and the UK’s Daily Mail to Wired UK, Forbes and more.

Wired was there before most and now they’ve updated their view, mirroring many of the questions informed skeptics have been asking for some time.

Reserving judgement, they nevertheless note that much of the coverage appears to be softening and wonder if AP is holding back for the bigger story to come. They note the dearth of substantial coverage in the mainstream but voice that and their views on Rossi in positive tones.

A shift is on the horizon. It would not take much for that shift to become a slide – a solid link identifying a credible customer or a qualified and independent observer breaking cover. There is a profusion of potential breakpoints and it is only a matter of time before something breaks. One thing seems likely – as journalists begin to see through the superficial certainty of those screaming Fraud, they are probably the canaries signaling a hidden change among potential investors, genuinely open scientists and cautious sceptics who recognise that there is more to this tale than the artificial noise suggests.

We all know that we do not have the proof required but the complex contortions required to construct a cohesive narrative that does not involve the possibility that Rossi is telling the truth are becoming as incredulous as that simple possibility. An interested person new to the subject and curious enough to peek through the preconception of junk science might be fooled by the contention stirred by a handful of commenters but more are sneaking through and thinking for themselves. Despite the lie that sites such as eCatNews.com are dominated by believers, the ranks of those taking a hopeful stance while waiting for real proof is growing.

The true voice of reason is becoming stronger.

Unfortunately, if Rossi hired a bunch of actors to pretend to be the customer reps, created an elaborate year-long special-effects-derived series of demos, bribed, hypnotised or otherwise fooled Focardi, Levi, Kullander, Essen, Bianchini, Stremmenos.

Did he convince a bunch of Greek crooks to set up a dummy company called Defkalion to pretend to fight with him over the non-existent eCat, to perpetuate the illusion and spin it off into a competing mirror-scam?

Has he convinced his former partners to set up another company called Ampenergo to pretend that they had a contract for The Americas for a substantial sum or that they just did this with no proof because they have worked with Rossi and trust him because he’s such a fine fellow?

Who arranged for Piantelli, Miley and a host of others to try to fool the world into thinking that cold fusion was real, got NASA, SPAWAR, The Defense Threat Reduction Agency and The Defense Intelligence Agency to say nice things about the field, got Bushnell to make a fool of himself, sold his profitable company to his ex-partners in order to spend that wealth on a multi-million dollar scam.

Was he certain that once he got all the above ducks in a row he would pretend to sell the first device and then reel in the true target of his dastardly plan – the second (this time genuine) buyer of a 1MW plant that will net him $2 million dollars until they want their money back or sucker a $100 million dollar deal under the table? He has experience in pulling the wool over all these idiotic eyes and knows that they will just take his word for it and not want to test if his 1MW plant can heat a small village without truckloads of coal or oil or a big fat electric cable coming into the container from beneath the floor (no you can’t lift the carpet!)

In order to pull this off, Rossi had to risk discovery by interviewing all the people he subsequently fooled so that he could only invite the gullible Professors and not the brilliant anonymous posters on the Internet who surely would have found him out – then all bets are off.

I’m with the guys who think that Rossi is an idiot and they are all geniuses .

Note that I posted the Wired.com story but it was pulled. The excerpt & link thread says to excerpt wired.com and that’s what I did. The admin moderator says the reason it was pulled was “wired”.

That's where I've been since this story first broke. Hopeful, but withholding judgment until I see real proof.

Jeez, do you have to post this diatribe with every e cat article? Okay already, I have seen it a dozen times already.

Here’s my take. Let us hope its real...why not? Let us hope entrepreneurs continue coming up with wild and impossible sounding ideas and bring them to fruition. His side kick Focadi (sp?) is the science behind the device, Rossi is the tinkering idea man...

We will know soon enough whether its a fraud or something real. Now if its a FRAUD, I will come here on Free Republic and say—yup, I was wrong about the whole thing and I got suckered. It was a Fraud.

But Kevmo, if Rossi is real, will you do the same?

regards

I'm not hopeful, after the big “test” there were too many convenient excuses. Something this revolutionary would not be gone about in this fashion if you ask me.
Not to mention the inventor has spent time in prison.

I pray to god, devil or sun I'm wrong of course.
I do think something revolutionary is due, but I don't think this is it.

***Yes I will. But I get to determine my own tipping point. Some of these flying rats would suggest that we should already be saying that. Bowl sheet.

Some of the media outlets like MSNBC and CBS used a blog post from the same source. The Forbes article was a blog post by a Network World columnist. Not as impressive as it may seem at first.

It appears that a relatively innocuous post responding to you was pulled.
This means I have nothing more to say to you about LENR. Bye.

Understood. I also would have liked to have seen the first big test conducted differently, and with better scientific monitoring. But, this was a test run for the customer, and they were satisfied with the results. Now all we can do is wait to see what sort of info leaks out, regarding their experience with the device.

One way or another, this development will be proven true or false. It's only a matter of time. And so I wait patiently for that.

Excellent!

And I would have to agree—the proof ain’t there quite yet. Maybe almost, but not there yet. I would like to see either some further “open” tests, or, have a buyer come out and say, yeah, it does what it is supposed to do, or nearly so, with some tweaking....

Let us see what happens!

"...the ranks of those taking a hopeful stance while waiting for real proof is growing."

That's not true. Read it again. Many folks are hopeful, but waiting for confirmed proof. Obama supporters needed NO proof that he was qualified to be president. Matter of fact, they refused to accept any proof that he was not.

People like me aren't queuing up with our money in our hands, like mindless Obamaloons. We're waiting patiently to see whether this is real, or whether it's not.

Count me in this camp. I am interested and hopeful for eCat, but no matter how many media outlets get onboard, the engineering challenges remain. Just because more people are watching, it doesn’t mean that making it work gets any easier. Sometimes more money makes an engineering problem get worked through faster, sometimes not. I am currently watching with cautious interest. Me picking a side isn’t going to get it to market any faster, if it is real.

Since Kevmo is only posting the "puff" pieces about Rossi, I thought it would be a good idea to post some of the information about Rossi that he doesn't want you to see:

http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dandrea%2Brossi%2Bpetroldragon%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26sa%3DX%26rls%3Den%26biw%3D1384%26bih%3D876%26tbs%3Dcdr:1,cd_min:1/1/1900,cd_max:12/31/2010%26prmd%3Dimvnso&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=it&twu=1&u=http://archiviostorico.corriere.it/1992/gennaio/08/PETROL_DRAGON_per_titolare_guai_co_7_9201081368.shtml&usg=ALkJrhhF9pDxm9v-kehpDELYixUZVw9Bmg

This article appears to be about criminal charges against Rossi for filing false invoices to take advantage of a "Law on the earthquake" (Earthquake-related subsidy?)

http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dandrea%2Brossi%2Bpetroldragon%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26sa%3DX%26rls%3Den%26biw%3D1384%26bih%3D876%26tbs%3Dcdr:1,cd_min:1/1/1900,cd_max:12/31/2010%26prmd%3Dimvnso&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=it&twu=1&u=http://archiviostorico.corriere.it/1994/marzo/09/petrolio_dai_rifiuti_inservibile_tossico_co_0_94030910061.shtml&usg=ALkJrhgXc3rY5p0XyvoUR3OKXbJgiy8uvw

This one is about the toxic waste from Rossi's alleged "garbage to oil" invention. According to this article, the "output" from Rossi's process was no more than 3% hydrocarbons. It appears that this was a syndicate of Rossi's company and several to dump their toxic waste by claiming that Rossi was converting it to fuel.

There is an article floating around that makes it sound like Rossi was an innocent victim of a conspiracy between the Italian government and the Mafio to shut down his legitimate business. Note that this article is nothing more or less than Rossi's defense in his trial. If you always believe whatever the defendant in a trial says, then you should believe Rossi.

http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dandrea%2Brossi%2Bpetroldragon%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26sa%3DX%26rls%3Den%26biw%3D1384%26bih%3D876%26tbs%3Dcdr:1,cd_min:1/1/1900,cd_max:12/31/2010%26prmd%3Dimvnso&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=it&twu=1&u=http://archiviostorico.corriere.it/1996/marzo/13/Petrol_Dragon_Silos_veleni_sequestrati_co_0_96031313857.shtml&usg=ALkJrhgGvvDYw4Cnl_KNxdsPFk2GRX9cEQ
According to this article, Rossi's "process" for converting garbage into fuel was to "mix the waste with lime" before sending it to the dump site.
http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dandrea%2Brossi%2Bpetroldragon%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26sa%3DX%26rls%3Den%26biw%3D1384%26bih%3D876%26tbs%3Dcdr:1,cd_min:1/1/1900,cd_max:12/31/2010%26prmd%3Dimvnso&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=it&twu=1&u=http://archiviostorico.corriere.it/1996/febbraio/20/Andrea_Rossi_gioielli_guai_co_0_9602206339.shtml&usg=ALkJrhi0K4_c5emZwMMYxUEMz-O_oInX0A
Here's an article about Rossi's gold scam. Fake invoices for shipping gold that never arrived at it's destination.
http://dodfuelcell.cecer.army.mil/library_items/Thermo(2004).pdf

This one is particularly interesting. Rossi sold the U. S. Army on his "invention" of a vastly more efficient Thermo-Electric (TE) Power Generator" that would convert waste heat into electricity.

"Dr." Rossi (notice that the Army thought, for some reason, that Rossi was a "Dr.") could improve the efficiency of these devices from "the current science of 4%" to 20%

Rossi produces a small-scale device, which appeared to show this dramatic increase in efficiency. (Although, as is typical of Rossi's demos, the testing methodology appears to be flawed. They only took measurements "every 1/2 hour", leaving as unanswered what the device was doing when no one was actually monitoring it.)

After this demo, Rossi's factory burned down, and Rossi left the country. He claimed that it would be more "cost effective" to build the actual devices in Italy.

None of the devices produced by Rossi worked. 19 of the 27 devices were totally incapable of generating electricity "for a variety of reasons." The remaining devices produced only 1 Watt of power, not only significantly less than the results promised by Rossi (800 - 1000 Watts), but less than the exiting technology provided. In other words, they didn't even work as well as devices he could have bought off the shelf.

The report carefully avoids drawing any conclusions about Rossi's involvement in this. I suspect that is because it doesn't help a military man's career by admitting that he was the victim of a con artist.
