He was the loyal companion of the Dambusters hero whose extraordinary bravery captured the nation.
Now ghost hunters believe the spectre of Nigger the dog, the Dambusters mascot, is still faithfully guarding his master's old quarters.
Ghost enthusiasts are convinced that the ghosts of both Wing Commander Guy Gibson and his chocolatecoloured Labrador still haunt the remote Lincolnshire airfield from which the audacious raid was launched.

"Politically incorrect dog ping" Yes, you're absolutely right, but I'm doing my part to try and make this dogs name OK. I'm standing on my head, whistling Dixie. . . oh crap! That's politically incorrect too. Maybe if I just stop whistling Dixie and stick my thumb up my. . . . Oh Crap!! I give up.

Glad to see there will be a remake of the Dambusters movie, although it’s too bad they feel compelled to change the dog’s name. Instead of Digger, they should call him Mohammed :-)

With all due respect to the Wing Commander’s bravery, the dog’s name ain’t funny.

The story of the Dam Busters is now set to be retold in a new film by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson although Nigger is to be renamed Digger due to fears that using the original name would cause offence. I am a firm believer in historical accuracy; otherwise why bother? Catering to political correctness is a slippery slope every time.
I await the exploits of Idi Amin as represented on film by a white European.
Wouldn't renaming the historical dog African American accomplish the same thing?

With all due respect to the Wing Commanders bravery, the dogs name aint funny. It is remarkably touchie-feelie and condescending to attack a war hero who lived and died in a different world of 68 years ago.
I suppose you also support the US Banning of the Disney film, Song of the South?

That’s why I loved the un-pc limeys...Nigger’ is mentioned more than twice in the article. If this were US MSM papers, it would be called ‘the dog’.

Thanks for the ping. In the picture, it sure looks like one of the girls has her left hand on the dog, which indicates that the dog wasn’t a ghost — unless the ghost dog can materialize and de-materialize.

The story of the Dambusters is now set to be retold in a new film by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson although the dog is to be renamed Digger as the original name is now recognised as an offensive term.Peter Jackson is a good choice.

Intelligence appears to be in short supply these days, if politics are any indication. If Peter Jackson can’t be historically accurate, then he should stick to Hobbits.
