What is everyone's favorite Thanksgiving Recipe and/or Tradition?
After giving special thanks to the Lord for His bounty, we chow down on the family’s special Italian turkey stuffing directly handed down from the old country. It is a closely guarded secret.
Tradition: Listening to my family bicker while I drink scotch in the corner.
Recipe: Dewar’s White Label
We do little slips of paper on which we write what we’re thankful for about each person in the family. We do this for 2 weeks before Thanksgiving, put them in a basket and go around the Thanksgiving table drawing at random and reading the “thankies”. Started about 6 years ago and everybody loves it. Generates a lot of conversation as well.

You have to have sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving, but everybody in my family hates sweet potatoes. So now we just put an unopened can of sweet potatoes in the middle of the table. We’ve used the same can for almost 20 years.
Picking up a Frisch’s pumpkin pie. Watching the Macy’s Day Parade while family arrives. Making corned beef and cream cheese rolls. Smelling the turkey cook. Listening to the electric knife hit the carving plate. Hearing my grandmother comment that the gravy isn’t thick enough. Looking through the Black Friday ads and coming to the conclusion that there isn’t anything worth getting up at the butt crack of dawn to buy. Enjoying leftovers the next few days. Being thankful for those who are serving overseas who can’t be with their family as I recall being in their shoes.
My wife and I will be alone that weekend, so it’s a turkey, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, a loaf of sourdough bread, and apple and pumpkin pies from Costco. We’ll be good to go for the entire weekend.
After dinner, my family plays games and the prizes are crummy gifts from the Dollar Store wrapped in brown and orange crepe paper. Since all 4 of my kids are grown and married, one of the favorite games is The Newlywed Game and I make up the questions and moderate. My husband and I don’t play b/c we’re too immature and would only end up bickering. They also like password. The children get door prizes. We also have a pie eating contest and the prize for that doesn’t come from the Dollar Store. One year it was a ceramic pig cookie jar and another year it was a pie.
Are we still allowed to celebrate Thanksgiving or is that offensive to Muslims and liberals as well?
I like the Banquet frozen dinners....but on Thanksgiving I splurge and get the Hungry Man. It comes with a brownie.
