Iron Dome Shoots Down Palestinian Morale

Palestinian terrorists are not happy. Last August, terrorist groups in Gaza thought they had come up with a way to get around the new Israeli Iron Dome anti-rocket system. They thought that all you had to do was fire at least seven rockets simultaneously at the same area being guarded by one Iron Dome battery. Islamic terrorists did this last August. One rocket got through, and killed an Israeli civilian. This “saturation” tactic is a problem with all air defense systems. But the saturation attacks turned out to be no more effective than firing many more rockets over an extended period. During two periods of intense rocket attacks last April and August, Islamic terrorists in Gaza fired over 300 rockets, most of them longer range ones aimed a large Israeli towns. For all this, they killed one Israeli. The Iron Dome system detected and shot down about 90 percent of the missiles that were headed for inhabited areas. That means only about a tenth of one percent of the Palestinian rockets were getting through to areas with people and buildings. Most of those rockets did not kill anyone,

I guess Israel isn’t allowed to return fire.

I guess Israel isn’t allowed to return fire.

If they can track and shoot them down counter battery fire should be a snap. The retaliation should be so swift and sure that any Palestinian seeing a launch going on will stop the firing to protect their own life.

I hope that the Dome rockets take out the incoming and continue on to kill many, many muslims.

The rockets seem to generally launced with a delay mechanism - sometimes just a long fuse.

Light the fuse and move away a couple of hundred yards. No worries about counter-battery.

I wonder how much each one of those Iron Dome missiles cost... I'd wager 100 times more than the rockets fired from gaza into Israel. Think of how much money Israel could save by just shooing back with the same sort of rockets fired by the terrorists. But for each terrorist rocket fired, Israel returns 50. Wow! A 50% savings, and I'd be willing to bet that the palis would be much more polite after a few volleys.

The problem is that the terrorists set up launch tubes in residential areas, often right next door to houses, schools, mosques, and hospitals, arm them, and fire them remotely, long after they've evacuated the area. They hope for an Israeli counter-strike, in order to generate dead women and children to parade before an Israel and Jew hating international media.

On the other hand, the people of gaza democratically put a terrorist organization in charge of the territory. They made a decision to institutionalize the destruction of Israel in their government. Which IMHO, makes them responsible for the rocket attacks against Israel, and makes Israel's hesitation for causing "collateral damage" irrelevant and should be abandoned.

Israel has MLRS, right? Start returning a full pod (12 rockets) back at every launch site. Each rocket can take out about 1 square kilometer, I’d say fire them all at the same reference point. Pretty soon there won’t be anything left in Gaza to hide behind. As Col. Smith said “Overkill is under-rated.”

FWIW, this is exactly the line of reasoning used by al Quaeda to justify the 911 attack. The United States is a democracy, its people elected the government that is oppressing the Palestinians and Muslims, therefore all Americans are responsible for the oppression and are legitimate targets of those who are fighting back against it.

I don't necessarily agree with their POV (or yours) but it should be noted that it IS the same argument.

I'm not so sure. Missiles differ from ballistic targets, like artillery, in that they have a long thrust periods far from the launcher. The closer to the launcher you detect a missile the smaller the uncertainty, granted. Even a relatively accurate track of a purely ballistic object gives pretty large error ellipses in launch and impact unless the object is being tracked near launch or impact.

Counter battery fire is generally satisfied at having about a one percent probability of a kill with a single return round. I don't mind firing a couple hundred rounds if the suckas are still there. If the Isrealis fired hundreds of rounds into populated Palestinian areas in relatiation for one missile launch, of course, they would be accused of overreacting and using "disproportionate" force. Of course, this tactic would be, comme on dit, "effectif". When the Hitlerjugend took potshots at U.S. forces from a German village, American artillery would level the village. Needless to say, the German civilian population did not warmly welcome the Hitlerjugend's arrival.

Clearly, Israel is the aggressor here, blatantly flaunting their weapons superiority, and destroying Palestinian property!

(extreme sarcasm, but something that 0bama might actually say)

Actually long time ago I e-mail'ed Israeli-Weapons.com as to why MLRS wasn't being utilized to stop musloids' home-made and Iranian-made rockets coming from Gaza, they replied MLRS not existent yet. Iron Dome AFAIK only on defensive mode instead of U.S. Aegis' "seek and destroy."

Whatever they'll call, Israel has proven that musloid's "saturation" and Iranian's "swarm" tactics ain't gonna work against Iron Dome and Aegis combat system.

Return fire on the Mosques. The are the headquarters of Islamic military planning and should be so designated as legitimate targets by reasonable people.
