Herman Cain's case against pundits who claim he's running a book tour rather than a presidential campaign just got a bit more complicated.
Federal Election Commission records show that the former Godfather's Pizza executive paid more than $64,000 of his presidential campaign funds to his motivational speaking company, T.H.E. New Voice Inc., for copies of his own books, and for lodging, airfare, and resources, Bloomberg News reports.
Previous rulings by the FEC have allowed candidates to use their campaign funds to buy their own books, as long as the purchase is at market value and the money goes to charity rather than to personal profit. But Bill Allison, editorial director at the Washington, D.C.-based Sunlight Foundation, told Bloomberg that Cain's case should raise some eyebrows.
"All candidates publish books and they offer them as a premiums to donors, but most candidates aren't buying them from their own companies," Allison said. "It raises the question of his campaign contributions ending up in his own pocket."

Buying books for his own company? You mean, like the unions do? I wonder how many CBS employees have purchased union books.
Oh good grief, every candidate with a book does this. It is just a legal thing they have to do. Technically, they dont own the books they write, the publishers do, so they establish this legal entity to purchase the books in which they provide for campaign donations, sign at events, etc. Perry does this as well.
You can tell Cain is in the lead, the MSM is giving him an anal exam. They did it with Bachmann when she was leading, they did it with Perry when he was leading, now they are doing it with Cain now that he is leading.
They Lame Stream Media will keep doing this until they can crown Romney. The sad part is how many here are empowering them.
Perry’s candidacy is dead because he is a poor candidate deal with it.
Attacking other candidates doesn’t affect Perry’s inadequacies and the collapse of his campaign.
There is some clarity in this.
Herman Cain’s book is campaign literature.
He borrowed money from his company to fund the book’s publication.
He is repaying that loan from campaign funds.
Do you see how 1+1=2 and then 2-1=1 He did nothing slimy.
Cain is a mathematician and a good one.
I posted from CBS Neews, which provides link to Business Week, but we are not allowed to post from Business Week.
They all used Cain campaign’s FEC filing as original source.
As they say, you are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.
Cain’s company is profiting from his book sales, because he is using campaign contributions to buy his own books, but has no expenses, because Cain’s campaign is paying for expenses of his book promotion tour.
Why can’t his supporters, who want to, just buy his books, why does his campaign buy them?
FEC rules do NOT allow a candidate to PROFIT from book sales of his own book, that Cain is doing.
Now read post #37. See how those statements concur? Of course you don’t, as a Perry-bot the truth is a foreign concept.
Probably does in your vapid mind.
The Left likes using this headline to give the bogus impression that high book sales are phony.
I'm sorry your boy can't write a book of his own. Must be something about the education system in Texas; they spend more time on saluting the Mexican flag and singing its anthem than they do on writing in English.
MeThinks there’s one big similarity between Cain and Obama that bothers you.
I looked at your pings and you have been against Cain for a quite some now.
You are from Texas and here is one of your pings,
“Well with Herman Kerry. . . err . . . Cain now publicly adopting the John Kerry-Heinz position on abortion—it’s wrong, but the government shouldn’t interfere with it—and with his Jim Wright book deal where his campaign coffers are paying him for his book, Cain is about to crater lower than Perry.
I suspect that Perry is the only alternative to Romney who could be elected.”
Hmmmm... Yeah how insightful. LOL!
Trying to pretend you are not a Perry supporter, and the fact you hate Cain more than Romney (anyone can see it in your pings that all you do is attack Cain) tells any objective person that is not true.
"I understood the thrust of the question to ask whether that I, as president, would simply order people to not seek an abortion. Why would he assume that the thrust of the question was as he stated? Did he not at the time know that the President can't order anyone to do something like that? Does he assume that the President IS the government?
My answer was focused on the role of the President. The President has no constitutional authority to order any such action by anyone. That was the point I was trying to convey."
Meet the Jewish NY couple that helped write Cain’s campaign memoir, traveled to Israel with him
“The Strobers, whose combined campaign experience is almost non-existent, wanted do what they could to help Cain win the presidency. After noting Cain’s low name recognition, they contacted the campaign and offered to help write a memoir to increase his visibility. The couple had authored numerous books over the years on personalities ranging from Rudy Giuliani to the Dalai Lama to Bernie Madoff and ultimately submitted their proposal to Cain campaign.
“A few weeks later he called us back and said, ‘This is Herman Cain, you have my voice’ and that led to doing the campaign book,” Deborah explained.
The Strobers composed the book in just a few months, getting it out just in time for Cain’s meteoric rise in the polls. The two say they got paid a fee to write the book for Cain, though no royalties. But they are more than paid hands.”

It’s good to see that playing the race card will be one of the Cainiacs ploys . . . just as Cain did against Perry with the hunting lease issue. Another similarity I see in Cain and Obama—playing the race card against those who oppose him.
This sentence doesn't really make any sense. Wouldn't the money go to the book company the campaign purchases the books from?
I don't get this scandal. The FEC has ruled that a campaign can purchase its candidate's books, and it's done all the time. It's not even slightly unethical.
Where is the controversy?
