Herman Cain's case against pundits who claim he's running a book tour rather than a presidential campaign just got a bit more complicated.
Federal Election Commission records show that the former Godfather's Pizza executive paid more than $64,000 of his presidential campaign funds to his motivational speaking company, T.H.E. New Voice Inc., for copies of his own books, and for lodging, airfare, and resources, Bloomberg News reports.
Previous rulings by the FEC have allowed candidates to use their campaign funds to buy their own books, as long as the purchase is at market value and the money goes to charity rather than to personal profit. But Bill Allison, editorial director at the Washington, D.C.-based Sunlight Foundation, told Bloomberg that Cain's case should raise some eyebrows.
"All candidates publish books and they offer them as a premiums to donors, but most candidates aren't buying them from their own companies," Allison said. "It raises the question of his campaign contributions ending up in his own pocket."

All the article implies is that it “raises questions” not outright law breaking.
They are trying to twist this into a “When did you stop beating your wife?” type of attack.....
LOL! So you hope...
No more Texans. Period.
There is a very clear effort to get Perry the nomination by default ... if enough dissonance and deceit can be heaped upon the other candidates these Perry supporters think they can get the default nomination for a man who is unable to debate, has a very poor record regarding illegal immigration, and who has even tried to squelch opposition to his record by calling us ‘heartless’. I’m sure there are lots of Texans who can give chapter and verse of why they as folks living under Perry’s rule are opposed to him rising further in his political ambitons, but I’ve seen enough of his supporters and his strategy to know I would not vote for the man. Newt Gingrich is the adult in the room at these debates. I have come to the point that his supposed baggage is not nearly as important as saving this Republic. I’m going to support and promote Newt Gingrich now.
Where's the /sarc tag? Kerry? Really? That's laughable...
I like Newt, but his baggage is too much for me to ignore. But I would support him for VP if the numbers looked good. No matter what, he is a valuable GOP weapon.
Gee, what do you know? Another DC based leftist organization which couldn't find a Democrat scandal at noon day with both hands unless it fits their agenda.
Exactly. And as for those vitriolic Cain detractors here in FR... a quick look into their previous postings reveals their motivations.

CBS "reporters," stop passing yourselves off as legitimate journalists. Those with operating brain cells know you're nothing more than the media arm of Obama's campaign. Why don't you just come forth with that admission and be done with it?
You do know that he has said that abortion is wrong but the government should not regulate it, don’t you? John Kerry held the exact same position.
No... actually what he said was it's not the President's job to order someone not to get an abortion.
Looks like Perry's donations are sinking as fast as his poll numbers:

" Yesterday in an interview with Piers Morgan on CNN, I was asked questions about abortion policy and the role of the President.
I understood the thrust of the question to ask whether that I, as president, would simply order people to not seek an abortion.
My answer was focused on the role of the President. The President has no constitutional authority to order any such action by anyone. That was the point I was trying to convey.
As to my political policy view on abortion, I am 100 percent pro-life. End of story.
I will appoint judges who understand the original intent of the Constitution. Judges who are committed to the rule of law know that the Constitution contains no right to take the life of unborn children.
I will oppose government funding of abortion. I will veto any legislation that contains funds for Planned Parenthood. I will do everything that a President can do, consistent with his constitutional role, to advance the culture of life."
FEC allowed it ONLY if the candidate didn’t profit from it — Cain is using campaign funds to buy books from his own FOR PROFIT company, so he is clearly profiting from the booksales AND having the expenses of the promotion of his books paid for by his campaign.
“The F.E.C. first addressed the issue of campaign-book-buying in 1995, when Alfonse D’Amato’s reelection committee requested permission to buy copies of “Power, Pasta, and Politics” to distribute as thank-you gifts to donors. In an advisory opinion, the F.E.C. stated that the practice was allowable, so long as the candidate received no royalties for the purchases (D’Amato had suggested donating the royalties to charity, which the F.E.C. approved of), and so long as the books were not resold or given away to people who had not made donations. “

Why the hate? Says more about you than him?
Now you’re sourcing “The New Yorker.” What are you doing on a conservative forum to begin with, troll?
