(CBS News) Apple CEO Steve Jobs refused to allow surgeons to perform what could have been life-saving surgery on his pancreatic cancer, says his biographer Walter Isaacson...
"I've asked [Jobs why he didn't get an operation then] and he said, 'I didn't want my body to be opened...I didn't want to be violated in that way,'" Isaacson recalls. So he waited nine months, while his wife and others urged him to do it, before getting the operation, reveals Isaacson. Asked by Kroft how such an intelligent man could make such a seemingly stupid decision, Isaacson replies, "I think that he kind of felt that if you ignore something, if you don't want something to exist, you can have magical thinking...we talked about this a lot," he tells Kroft. "He wanted to talk about it, how he regretted it....I think he felt he should have been operated on sooner."

Pancreatic is a killer though, and he did well to survive as long as he did.
:O) Your mom was blessed.....
Yes she was fortunate, granny. Thanks. So were we. Oh so blessed!
I found this interseting in that Jobs did not make a concrete decision like my mom did. She studied the survial rate with Whipple surgery and the type of cancer she had. She knew the odds were very slim she’d survive and there would have a lot of suffering if she survived from the surgery alone. We would have supported any decision she came to. Her daughters supplied her with medical info and research so she could decide in an informed way.
What interests me about Jobs, is that he did not decide based on the medical/scientific facts in front of him. He played airy fairy new ager (as described in the article “magical thinking”) and sought unsound new agey remedies. Then, when it did not work, he sought medical treatment, but it was too late and he regreted his decison process.
That is fine for someone to do, but it tells you something about his “brilliance” and his support of utopians. It tells us alot about the socialist meglomanics (billionarie) of today.
To me, it also relates to how he could be a socialist while knowing the pricipals of free enterprise which made him rich and cutting edge in his techology development. If not for free enterpise, he would be nothing. Yet he supported Marxists in power who would ultimately undermine his own success. (we have some worshiping deniers here but the truth is Jobs supported Clinton and Obammy even though he warned Obammy that radicalism would not win reelection.)
It just amazes me. And I have been wondering how these “capitalists” have been on the DNC (Marxist) bandwagon. It is like opposites. Winn - the Nevada CEO who put all his energy into the relection of Reed and now complains that Marxist “progress” is killing the Nation’s free enterprise... What, is he nuts?!
Jobs death process explains the emotional new age or Marxist ideals overcoming reality like Winn...like Ted Turner that GE guy Imerlt!
Speaking of cancer, I should not be alive.
Yes, although he was operating on magical thinking, he was fortunate to surive as long as he did. I
think he would have survived longer had he researched his condition and the scientific options rather than going the New Age “healing” route. Trouble is, he thought so, too, but it was too late for concrete thinking based upon the terrible facts of his condition.
It was a do or die situation and he chose to play airy fairy. Like working to put marxists in power while he had all his life and success built on free enterprise. And that is the point of this post.
And he supported the DNC and Clinton before he supported the community organizer in office currently. He tried to warn him off from self destruction - all to naught. Which was obvious to all not mentally retarded with “magical thinking.” Ulitmately magical thinking - utopian thinking -cost him his life - or so he says.
Don’t ever confuse me with your “dear.” I’m not.
Oh, i see. He supported the current community organizer Marxist in office because he is a special, magical thinking kinda democrat who in hindsight figured out he screwed up like he did with his “alternative cancer treatment decision. LOL Get off it. He was an idiot outside his creative endeavours.
High horsey riding...still. All you can do without your brain engaged in life. :) Outlaw woman to the high horsey rescue!
“There is no sin so great He wont forgive it”
Only a good God would do that. Wait...
