Daniel Griswold, an immigration expert at Cato Institute, writes, "In l997, the National Research Council published a major study on immigration. It found that an immigrant with a college education is a huge net plus for the United States."
This powerful finding resulted: "Immigrants and their descendants represent a net fiscal gain for the United States. The typical immigrant and all of his or her descendants represent a positive $80,000 fiscal gain to the government. An immigrant with more than a high school education (plus descendants) represents a $198,000 fiscal gain, one with a high school diploma a $51,000 gain, and one with less than a high school education a $13,000 loss."

It’s an apples and oranges thing. The little boys and girls in the state run “media” do like to play with words. According to the kiddies in the “media”, someone who goes into a bank to make a deposit to their account is the same as someone who goes in to rob the joint.
Living in one of the capitals of illegal immigration, I have seen this problem on an up close and personal basis for six decades. And to some amount, the article is correct. I know many college educated Hispanic Republican business owners (I live next door to one) that have grandparents that came across ‘wet’ and worked in some day labor type job.
Try to find similar stories in the welfare ranks. You will find few if any. What you will find is an “industry” that has maintained growth from more than 6 decades, and continues to suck down a larger and larger amount of cash each year.
And no, it wasn't “ended” or even “reformed” under clintoon. And all the things GWB put into place were rescinded as soon as zero took office.
It is the NUMBER ONE problem we face and DWARFS illegal immigration as a threat to the nature. And yet there is silence.
Hmmm...what is the difference in these two statements?
As another Freeper observed, how does the US (or Texas) benefit by spending money on the education of someone who can't legally work here? Either the semi-educated illegal is granted amnesty, or all of that money in education and training is sent somewhere else to be applied in commerce.
Well, it just makes for more a of a magnet for illegals to keep coming and having kids over here rather than having an upheaval in their own country and solve those problems. Perry is political toast as far as president is concerned.
THAT is the most misleading, nee, LYING, headline for any article that I have ever seen.
YOU point out to ME even ONE place where the CATO study says one damn thing about ILLEGAL immigrants. ONE. This is bogustry and propaganda at its absolute worst.
You should be ashamed of yourself using a LIE like this to promote a candidate...ANY candidate.
Yes, sure an educated immigrant, an educated legal immigrant, is a net gain.
But an illegal renegade, who is then literally financed by the legal citizen taxpayer, is a not a net erosion to the civil rules of behavior which all hopeful citizens need respect? That isn't a loss? Both an ineffable loss to the respectful rules of civility crossing all international decency, and a blatant subversion of the loyalty of the legitimate taxpayer to his national government?
Think about it; opinions like this article demonstrate a blatant arrogance, saying that a Mexican citizen is incapable of respecting or understanding civil behavior. That repulsive arrogance IS the arrogance of the Elites. They, the elites, think to themselves that others are not capable of civilized life.
These, as in the CFR, or say Jay Rockefeller, or George Soros, are truly despicable human beings.

What part of illegal does Perry not understand? Hispandering is a terrible disease that affects one’s reason.

Then you should be fighting against loans, grants and scholarships for illegals. Requiring them to pay instate tuition is not the same as paying for their tuition.
18 year olds are not “children”. They are adult foreign nationals who are here illegally.
Equating immigrant with illegal alien in terms of whether a college education will be a net plus to the US is convoluted logic and is deliberately deceptive, period! The former is debatable in the context of whether a natural borne citizen is impeded or kept from acceptance in college admissions, and the latter assumption is ludicrous. The would-be graduates are flat out criminals.
This argument is deceitfully advanced by heartstring tugs for the poor little tyke brought here (through no fault of his/her own - they always gotta add that!) that just wants to 'contribute'...blah blah blah....what they want is a free education and they want to get their damned parents, grandparents and every other illegal relative they have legalized.
File this story of bleeding heart do-gooder BS.
How about all the money their parents got for WICs, AFDC, EBT, etc.? Their being here has already cost the US taxpayer money. Disseminating the argument with specious equivocation about in-state or out-of-state is just avoiding dealing with the fact that these people are criminals, period.
The entire problem of illegal aliens, benefits, tuition et all comes down to one very simple question that we allow politicians and many of the pro-illegal/apologistst for bad policy right here on FR to get away with and divert from.
“The presence of illegal aliens on American soil is a violation of our laws from the nanosecond they cross the border. Period. Any further ‘law’ policy rule or regulation aiding illegal aliens cannot by it’s very nature be ‘legal’ because it goes against one very simple FACT. It aids and abeds a crimonal.”
Now every time an apologist for the various “DREAM Act” like laws or sanctuary city nonsense goes off about it being a ‘Federal matter”, remind them of that simple FACT and ask them what they are doing to hold the politicians who WILLINGLY BREAK THE LAW by their implementation, accountable. Don’t back off, don’t let them divert, duck, ignore and change the subject...make them square it. In public. Here on Free Republic and in the real world.
Hint...making them President/Governor etc. is NOT holding them accountable. Allowing apologists and propagandists to continue making excuses for Perry’s two-faced positions on illegals is not holding them accountable. Can anyone here tell me with a straight face otherwise?
Why are supposed and self-proclaimed ‘conservatives’ spouting the very same lines that liberals use to push their agenda for illegal aliens? Is it not time we put an end to this BS?
Ping!

Amen brother!! ..... A-M-E-N.
I don’t want to see the illegals jailed. I want to see the traitorous and criminal Americans who employ them jailed.
And then I want to see their ill-gotten assets (from the profits of employing illegal aliens) seized and auctioned.
Profiting from the employment of illegal aliens (who entered
and remain in this country illegally) is a racket and should be considered organized crime as defined in the
RICO law statutes......
See below >>>>>>>
RICO offenses
Under the law, racketeering activity means:
* Any violation of state statutes against gambling, murder, kidnapping, extortion, arson, robbery, bribery, dealing in obscene matter, or dealing in a controlled substance or listed chemical (as defined in the Controlled Substances Act);
* Any act of bribery, counterfeiting, theft, embezzlement, fraud, dealing in obscene matter, obstruction of justice, slavery, racketeering, gambling, money laundering, commission of murder-for-hire, and several other offenses covered under the Federal criminal code (Title 18);
* Embezzlement of union funds;
* Bankruptcy fraud or securities fraud;
* Drug trafficking; long-term and elaborate drug networks can also be prosecuted using the Continuing Criminal Enterprise Statute;
* Money laundering and related offenses;
* Bringing in, aiding or assisting aliens in illegally entering the country (if the action was for financial gain);
* Acts of terrorism.
Under RICO, a person who is a member of an enterprise that has committed any two of 35 crimes27 federal crimes and 8 state crimeswithin a 10-year period can be charged with racketeering. Those found guilty of racketeering can be fined up to $25,000 and sentenced to 20 years in prison per racketeering count. In addition, the racketeer must forfeit all ill-gotten gains and interest in any business gained through a pattern of racketeering activity. RICO also permits a private individual harmed by the actions of such an enterprise to file a civil suit; if successful, the individual can collect treble damages.
I would support Perry today if he simply stated support to the use of this law. He doesnt HAVE to say he will
forcibly deport them. I dont want to spend a bunch of
money chasing them down. I want them going back on their
own and I dont care if they have to ride a donkey all the way to the border.
But, Perry will never do this because he has big $$$$ donors who profit from the use illegal alien labor.
Jan Brewer has Rick Perry’s nuts in her purse. She needs to return them. It would improve his debate performance.
lett us know how many of these immigrants being touted in this study are illegal. i’d hazard a guess that very few immigrants with diplomas are illegal. and that the overwhelming majority of illegal immigrants are a drag on the economy.
just sayin’
Then complain about those things. Youre the one making the claim that instate tuition is costing you taxpayer money. When in reality, you are mad about other things, and using instate tuition hoping no one really pays attention.
There seems to be quite a bit of animosity towards Gov. Perry for signing the education bill approved by 99% of the Texas Legislature. Hmm, that means it was veto proof, right?
Actually, I have to be honest here. I was working in CA for 6 years when this bill was passed, and when I heard of it, I went ballistic. I have been back in TX for 2 gubernatorial elections and have not voted for Perry in either one. However, this bill was not even on my radar for not voting for him. My main reason was the super toll road from Mexico to OK.
That being said. I have had time to temper my judgement of the in-state tuition. There was an earlier post where the writer inserted the definition for rationalization. I think that defines the position of many on illegal immigrants currently in the US. How can you rationalize sending back 12 million people to Mexico and parts south? It would be a heck of a task.
Let’s look at one scenario. Juan and Juanita walk across the border at Matamoras and Brownsville with their two infant children with the expressed purpose of going shopping at the Mall. Instead, they go to the Greyhound station and get tickets to Houston, where they stay with friends until they are able to get jobs at a restaurant and get WIC benefits and a Lone Star card and maybe housing subsidies and they move out and start their lives. They have 4 more children, but these are legal, American citizens. This puts a drain on the taxpaying legal citizens for most of the two’s lives.
Now the first two children whom are illegal aliens, Pete and Marie, are educated by the public school system which is financed by property and sales tax of which both are paid by Juan and Juanita. Granted it is still a drain on the overall system. Pete and Marie make average grades and are accepted to a state college.
They confess they are illegal aliens, but would like to take advantage of the program to pursue citizenship while attending college at in-state rates.
They are still paying to go to college at the same rate as their four siblings. When they graduate, under normal circumstances, they would be expected to get a reasonable paying job which would mean they would raise their families without WIC, without the Lone Star card and without other subsidies.
Compare this to US citizens that are welfare families that stay on the dole for generations. The welfare families all get in-state tuition if they choose to go.
Compare this to the illegal and legal immigrants and US citizens that are gang bangers instead of college students.
Just saying.
Liberals wish for "A Coddled Nation" and they want to be your Pimp Daddy.
Gimme the money, bitches, or I'll 'slap you up'.
