'I am really scared': Family lost in corn maze calls 911 for help

A Massachusetts family got the Halloween scare of a lifetime by getting lost inside a dark and creepy Salem-area corn maze and had to call 911 for rescue.

Danvers police say they got a call of distress from a mother of two about 6:32 p.m. Monday. The woman alerted the 911 operator of their situation in the Connors Farm in Danvers, a short distance from Salem...

He said a Danvers police with a tracking dog quickly plunged into the depths of the maze with a farm manager to search for the disoriented dad, mom and two young kids.

Within a minute or so upon arrival, the police officer located the family. The family didn't realize they had almost made their way out; they were just 25 feet from the street, Connors said.

Lost in a corn maze? Sounds like they’re a few kernels short of a cob.

These clowns would have died of fear where I was at this morning. Miles of these little maple saplings that all look alike with no straight lines through the woods. Just open enough that deer don't even make a regular trail.

Hubby is crazy enough to let me lead when we take the Harleys out.

Sometimes, just for kicks, I’ll start taking turns on unmarked, barely paved back roads simply to see where they go.

As the hours wear on and there’s no signs of civilization, he gets “concerned”.

Funny thing is, no matter how much I don’t really know “where I am”, I have this weird “homing pigeon” talent that always guides me back.

He didn’t believe me until one night that we were coming back from somewhere on the back roads of southwestern PA and it was getting really late.

I’d stop, “feel the pull” and take the next turn and then seemingly, double-back at another turn, the way I’d just come.

About a hour later, we popped out on RT 40 about a hundred yards from our lane.

He’s never doubted me since....;D
[but to this day, I couldn’t tell you where I ~was~ that night, for love or money]

I have *tried* to teach him to remember where the sun is on him and then just -reverse- it it to get home.

Hasn’t caught on to that, yet.

After dark, he’s totally lost.

[good thing he’s never read Stephen King’s short story “Mrs Todd’s Shortcut” or he’d ~never~ follow me into the wilderness again]...LOL

Actually it was WBCN that advertised her as the Official Witch of Salem. It was joked that Laurie’s religion was not Wiccan, but Capitalism. Been to her store. $750 for a glass ball on a stick for fledgling Wizards and that was 20 years ago.

I don't really think you are capable of figuring anything out. It wasn't my wife, I wasn't the guy in the maze, I'm not from MAss and if you ever had the balls to suspend your wife's cell phone privileges (which I know you would not have the balls to do) and found yourself in the same predicament as this couple you would now be unconscious without someone able to call 911 to save your fat ass. However you did find a point, you are one stupid POS.

I guarantee you, there will be a law suit over this.

I heard the recorded 911 call on tv. The person on the phone said that it was getting dark and thought that the owners would have sent someone out to make sure everyone was out.

So these people will show the world, that not only are they stupid and cowards, but they're jackasses too.

Ahh...the perfect democrat.

Beautiful!

[they’d *never* find me in there!]

;D

That’s what most of my area looks like.

I actually get freaked out if I can see more than a few hundred yards in front of me.

Going to the Flatlands totally overloads my brain.
I feel naked and exposed without my comforting ridges and trees.

Iowa would be like Hell, for me.

LOL

"BTW, anyone who thinks they can "just walk out" has never tried to walk through 6-7 foot tall corn stalks. Those leaves will rip and tear anything that isn't strong cotton or canvas... Skin included!"

That simply isn't true. We grow hundreds of acres of corn every year on our farm, and walk through it in shorts and tank tops. My skin has never been ripped and torn while doing so.

That's one of the reasons I didn't stay in Texas back in the 80s. I like the woods too much.

You should drive down to New Hope, PA.

It’s the poor man’s Salem.

I’ve never gotten cut or scratched by corn.

I’ve gotten whacked pretty good in the forehead by running into a dry ear of field corn hanging out from a row.

It’s THE reason I haven’t moved to Texas.

Glorious place but no mountains.

Gotta have mountains.

Living in Norfolk VA for 6 months nearly drove me mad.
I could see the *flat, endless ocean* every time I looked or went outside.

{{{{shudder}}}}

I stayed inside most of the time.
