WORLD SERIES WINNERS - 7 different winners in last 7 years?
espn ^ | oct 2011

Unless the Cardinals win it all this year, it will be 7 different winners in the last 7 years. That's good for baseball.

From 1978 to 1987, there were 10 different winners.

1987 Minnesota Twins 1986 New York Mets 1985 Kansas City Royals 1984 Detroit Tigers 1983 Baltimore Orioles 1982 St. Louis Cardinals 1981 Los Angeles Dodgers 1980 Philadelphia Phillies 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates 1978 New York Yankees

I almost went to a Pirate game this year. Then I came to my senses.

I have suffered enough.

Well, doug, we couldn’t have 8 winners, could we? But it could also strengthen the suspicion that the fix is in, with MLB trying to spread the joy for strictly monetary reasons.

Yeah, there are Blue Jay fans around, a lot of excursions are run to TO during the season (esp. vs the Yankees — surprise).

Not as many Pirates fans as you might think ... Buffalo has always been more of an AL town.

I'm a proponent of the Yankees winning most of the time and also a proponent of the Red Sox never winning!

That would be great just to stick it to Cliff Lee

He choked for the Rangers in the WS and then went to the Phills because they had the best chance to get back to the world Series

Puck the Fhilles. Maybe next year it will rain like 2008 and they can steal another one.

“Ha. The Orioles haven’t had a .500 season since ‘97. But Camden Yards is a pretty stadium.”

The Pirates haven’t had a .500 season since 1992 and have a *prettier* stadium. I think you are on to something here ... :).

Just out of curiosity...as an NHL fan, do the Sabres have fans from Fort Erie, Welland, Fonthill, etc.? Or are the cross border residents all Leafs fans?

Since Philadelphia embraced the psychopath dog killer, it won’t bother me at all if the city never wins in any sport. And they always cheat in elections.

Philly fans are the most vile. The sport matters not.

I've been a visiting fan for MLB, NFL and NHL games all over North America. I've never had an issue anywhere except Philly. I've been spat on at The Vet and swung at in The Spectrum.

They're dirt bags.

The only teams never to win a World Series are Washington (ex-Montreal), Seattle, Tampa Bay, Texas, Houston, Milwaukee, Colorado and San Diego.

And the Chicago Cubs in the modern era. And that will probably continue for another 100 plus years.
