She should have taken those kids to a military Hospital so they could see those who decided that even though they also loved their children, they understood that their duty was to our nation and the millions of people who depend on them....
Sacrificing for the country is taking care of your kids......a leader goes places where others are not sure where to go.....and I hear in Sarah's voice in the Bob and Mark show how MUCH she wanted to run....
If Sarah had entered she would have gotten $50 million dollars the first day, or more.....
Sarah should re-examine her decision and change her mind for our America...her kids will understand later.....
“I have often wondered how many people actually vote because of an endorsement.”
Same here. I’m open to input but I can’t recall basing a vote on anyone’s endorsement.
I have no doubt that Bristol was one of them. She should of course take her childrens’ feelings into consideration. They would have had to spend their formative years in the media glare.
Do you do anything but call names?
State your point civilly and move on.
No, I think Bristol is made of tough stuff. I think it was Willow and possibly Track.
Mine too... obviously. And Obama is “weak as water!”
Those are adults in the military hospital who volunteered to serve.
Not comparable to minor children struggling with death threats, lack of a mother in the home (one being a special needs kid).
Not a good comparison, and I doubt many of our vets feel outraged that young children may not want to put their lives on the line. Or that a mother may not want to put the lives of minor children on the line.
In “Decision Points,” George W. Bush recounts how his daughters, particularly, Jenna did not want him to run for president. He tells a story, IIRC, about how he wandered out into the yard or porch one evening, sat down beside her and had a heart-to-heart talk.
Result: he ran.
That said, his girls were older and were never going to be the subject of the same kind of hate and violence the Palin children will (yes, WILL) receive.
If Bush’s daughter’s reasons were similar to the Palin kids’, I wonder what his decision would have been. I can’t see any parent living with the idea that national/global media will be making rape “jokes” about your kids and so on.
They’re probably just a small, disproportionaly vocal minority.
Hard to believe that of the original cast only Frank Thornton and Nicolas Smith are alive. And Thornton is 90.
This was more than harrassment. The Bush girls were harrassed (a little) when reporters took pictures of them — gasp! — smoking and showing a little love to the boys.
This was not what was in store for the Palin kids.
Remember the jokes about raping Willow?
That’s not harassment, a la celebrity stalking. That’s pure bullying and it’s bullying by a huge international media against which there really would have been no escape.
This election is important and it is a war. So what are YOU going to do to win? Instead of looking for leaders, it's time for us to lead ourselves and do what we can to make sure things go in the right direction.
We’ll see.
I think it’s more likely that she’ll become one of many pundits commenting on the race, with no particular influence.
Good grief, do people not realize that the fangirly segment of Palin’s base, the segment that caused them the most trouble over this last year or so, almost completely turned on a dime against her over her decision not to run?
Congratulations, you just stripped Palin of whatever influence she might have had left. (She can rebuild in the future.) If she can’t even deliver her formerly obsessed fangirly fans, everyone else will feel a lot more free to do what they’ve done with her run announcement: react to it in a ho-hum way and move on.
Speak for yourself, not everyone. Why would I not trust her? She made the decision in the time frame she said she would. She never promised to run. She said her and her family prayed about it. As most Christians, she put her faith in God. I think her children’s opinions were important but they are a strong, patriotic family and think, had she ran, supported her.
She has been very influential since she chose to come on the national scene. She’s supported the Tea Party, spoken at their events, and promoted them in the press. She’s written policy papers, defined conservative ideals and presented solutions to those problems. They are specific enough that the public understands their practicality but are vague enough that they can be adopted and if put into action can be a part of an administration’s plan.
But, I think her biggest gift to the country has been her ability (sometimes single handily) to pull the country to the right and promote conservative ideals in a positive way. She enthusiastically and tirelessly campaigned for conservatives at all levels of government. And her record of success is pretty impressive. Granted, there were a couple of highly publicized meltdowns but Sarah Palin had not control over that. There’s always gonna be a couple like that. However, those were local races and became national for the sole reason that Palin was campaigning for them. How many other state’s elections got national coverage?
She has (and will continue to have) more venom spewed at her than anyone I’ve seen in a long time. Her crime? she’s a rock star (something conservatives haven’t had for a while) and she’s unafraid. Doesn’t matter what they do, she never, ever backs down. I know she’ll still draw a crowd because she has a dynamic personality and an infectious joy. Her speeches are bold and she often says what a politician (especially one serving or campaigning) cannot say. It’s just the nature of the beast. Her folksy style which some people think diminishes her appeals to regular folks because she’s us and happy to be what she’s always been.
If you think about it, she’s been extremely influential in her support of conservative ideals and seeing that people with those same ideals are elected. I was completely disappointed just as everyone else who wanted her to run. But after thinking about it, which will help our country the most, one person getting elected president or a slew of conservatives being elected? A president can be most productive when he has enough congressmen, senators, and governors supporting him to effect change. Since she and Todd prayed about this we have to believe that this is the plan for her. Sometimes God doesn’t send us down the path we want but after we’ve been down it we see the wisdom of his situation. Heck, she’s visiting foreign countries, making speeches, meeting leaders, showing her leadership ability and improving her favorability with the public. She may yet try again and, as the public watches her grow in knowledge and foreign policy experience will have an excellent chance of winning. Imagine 2 conservative presidents in a row!
Besides, if she stays a rock star I can still be an obsessed fan...nobody cares whether people obsess over a rock star! ;)
Cindie
Very weird. Not to mention she would probably be disobeying God as well, considering she prayed for guidance in making her decision. I’m sorry she’s not running but I respect her decision and I can understand it. Now, I’ll continue on with my exciting life.
Whatever
I agree with your assessment of Perry. I could support him if he hardens his immigration stance.
For that matter, she may have reached the conclusion that her kids would be the ones to refuse to refrain from getting out there and using their own celebrity to dork with their mother whenever they felt like it.
I have a feeling Bristol could make what Patty Davis did to Ronald Reagan look like a lark.
