Some Initial Palin Thoughts
10/6/2011 | vanity

Posted on 10/06/2011 5:18:21 PM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

I have more to say, but for now:

I do not believe this (her ultimate decision) was something she went back and forth over constantly in the past few months or years. I believe that not only did she leave the governorship of Alaska with 2012 and the US presidency in mind--but she left McCain's concession stage the night Barack Obama was elected in '08, with 2012 and the US Presidency in her sights.

I believe there was careful strategy behind the timing of her book releases, their content, and the way they were written and the way they ended. There was *political* strategy behind choosing to go on Oprah to do her first interview following her resignation--and to meet with Barbara Walters shortly thereafter. I do not believe she chose to go on Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno's return to The Tonight Show episode just because she "loves" being a celebrity. I believe all of it was political and part of her efforts to appear before the masses unfiltered and real. AKA: she was campaigning.

I believe there was strategic considerations about her personal political future behind her decision to become a Fox commentator and her efforts to revamp her media image. Same goes for her decision to invite cameras into her home for "Sarah Palin's Alaska" and I'm sure she even saw the hidden political benefit of having Bristol Palin win the minds and hearts of the public on "Dancing With the Stars."

I believe she changed her foreign policy advisors early this year in light of her presidential aspirations. I believe she went to Israel, India, and Haiti (Sudan was cancelled) and Korea (which she is scheduled to visit next week) with the US presidency in mind.

I believe her decision to release "The Undefeated" in Iowa and key voting states had electoral considerations in mind. I believe every SarahPAC YouTube video screamed "will be running soon, watch out." Her bus tour, her facebook notes touting her record, and her retweets which linked to her most key supporters and supporting organizations like Conservatives4Palin and TammyBruce were intended to encourage site viewers to see her in the context of a potential candidacy.

I believe all her speeches in Iowa and New Hampshire in early September were serving as very BLATANT precursors to her running: touting her experience fighting crony capitalism in Alaska, talking about "HER plan" for the country, etc...etc...

I believe that up until even two weeks ago: she had the fire in her belly. She is a fierce competitor with unlimited energy.

I believe she is confident in her ability to beat Barack Obama and run a fantastic, history-making campaign that breaks all expectations and conventions.

EVEN TINA FEY parodied Palin's "2012 aspirations" on one of her final appearances on SNL the end of the last election cycle. All of Palin's most vociferous haters and denyers, were deep down, expecting Sarah Palin to run...

Which is why, I believe:

Her decision to not run was a very carefully thought out--but last minute decision she's made over the past two weeks at the MOST. I know the lives and safety of her children were of utmost consideration and that there were several recent issues that must have initiated severe worry.

But ultimately, I believe there is more to it that she won't ever say. There is so much that we don't know--about the inner workings of the GOP, for example, that we simply are not a part of and will never see. But I do believe there were things that happened or that she has learned of in these past few DAYS that ultimately led to her final breaking point decision...Something dramatic and sudden, and something more political in nature--than having to do with family.

That's just my guess.

Ultimately, I believe this was simply GOD's way of telling America: at this point, you're not deserving or worthy of a godly leader. You blew it.

That's what my next post will be about.

You mean like the (reported) death threats against her parents, Joe McGinniss camping out next to her house all summer, the gay screaming in Bristol's face "Your mom's a whore" and the other typical things faced by all the others?

Oh, and for the record.

She was a private citizen at that point, NOT an elected official.

Instead of contributing more lies and vitriol onto her, why not contribute $10 or $20 to the FReep-a-thon?

Cheers!

I must say, as an avid Sarah supporter...do I feel betrayed? Yes. Do I feel let down? Yes. Do I feel like I was strung along? Yes.

However, I cannot blame Sarah. I can only blame myself. She has stated all along she has not made a decision....but I CHOSE NOT to believe her.

That was my choice. I truly believed she was going to run and put all my eggs in one basket (like I did with Fred Thompson).

It was I who made both choices, on my own. You would think I would have learned from Fred, but no, I did not.

I cried for both announcements......actually, I cried and threw myself around when Sarah said she wasn't going to run.

I still have my “bag o Sarah change”, which I will cash in. Can't say how much is in there, but I will say part of it will go to FR.

The one thing I remember Sarah saying is that if she felt there was no other candidate running who could turn this country back to where it should be (not exact words), she would throw herself in.

Perhaps she saw Cain as the candidate who COULD do it. I haven't followed anyone else, except a little here and there on Cain.

However, I refused to support anyone else until I knew what Sarah's decision was (again, I thought she'd be in it).

Now that she isn't, I'm taking a deeper look into our current candidates. Mittens can leap off the Empire State Building for all I care. Perry and his illegals can go take a hike.

So I'm focusing on Cain. The more history I read about him (a rocket scientist!!!!) and earning his way up the corporate ladder because he has the ability to get things done, the more I like him.

Even the “girls” on The View were respectful towards him. The audience applause was more than I expected.

I've decided to cash in my “Sarah bag o change”. For my FR and for Cain.

On the first part we will have to agree o disagree as there are bigger fish o fry.

On your second point the organizing 4 groups are uniquely positioned to do hat, so I stand in agreement with that.

You are dead on. Her explanation of why she isn’t running sound the same to me as other elected officials who leave office saying they “Want to spend more time with my family”.

100% agree...it is lame. But I have no idea the real reason. I don't think the 'Glenn Rice' thing matters even if true...that was a long time ago in a universe far away. Things happen in young people's lives and hardly any of us are proud of all we did in our youth. IMO as far as that possible "episode" goes - who cares. I am just stunned that a person who could be a real player on the national stage - said no thanks. :(

I think it has to do with credible threats to her family and political life from the big boys...

They are NOT going to let her waltz in and ruin their playhouse without a BIG sacrifice.

That’s my opinion but we will never know, like you said.

That wack-job at the bar in . LA was way over the line, can you imagine what it would have been like for her kids if she ran, even with SS protection. These evil B@$t@rd$ are ruthless.

Suggested tagline: "Let's GET the Bastards. For SARAH!"

Since you have all along supported someone else, your opinion is quite worthless.

Quite the opposite. The hard core Palinistas opinion is pretty much zero now. For the last 6-8 month, there has been countless vanities and blogs posted stating beyond a shadow of a doubt that she was going to run. Many analogies to Reagan '80 for why she was waiting till the last minute. Non believers in either her running or viability as a candidate were severely punished with hate and vitriol. Now the truth is known and the folks here who didn't have any emotional connection with any candidates and made objective observations have been vindicated.

Now we have a new round of tea leaf reading about what secret meaning this Palin announcement had. It had no meaning. She was weak in the polls, her movie and TV show didn't do well and there were already solid Conservatives running. This was all about whether she could win or not and nothing else.

You could believe in Unicorns, but it wouldn’t make it so.

Palin has been talking about her process, she had a nice 15-minute segment on Hannity today . Did you listen to it? If so, you might not have to speculate so much.

Hopefully, you aren’t one of those “Palin Supporters” who only listened to her because she was going to be President, and so isn’t listening to her anymore.

Sorry to reply to myself but: I am just stunned that a person who could be a real player on the national stage - said no thanks. :(

I can't help but wonder if - when push came to shove - the Republican "old boys" didn't make her an offer she couldn't refuse. Maybe a combination of carrot and stick.

Here’s another thought. The 2012 presidency is a poison pill for whoever wins. Zero will kick the economic crash down the road past the election. Whoever comes next will preside over a great depression and will be made into the next Herbert Hoover.

“You’re getting a lot of mileage out of some guy’s Sun Tzu’s analogies....though it may make sense in the not to far distance pass.”

I’ve observed in life that dreams sell for a lot more than reality. Sarah’s candidacy was a dream that didn’t come to fruition... but while it was a dream, she walked on water, was amazingly brilliant, sinless, and above average in every way. Now I like her a lot, but she is human... and now she has come back down to reality, where we all live.

... OR, maybe this is some kind of Sun Tzu deception strategy and she will sweep in at the last minute when we aren’t expecting it and overturn Romney and Cain.

I have also observed that when there is a vacuum of information, people make up crap to fill the vacuum and then act on it as if it is true... often to their detriment.

Only in the sense that someone she trusted, and saved their Political ass lied through his teeth, and clearly think a lot less of him.

Most Perry supporters think that since SP came to Texas to support him in the Primary against the Wacko Truther and KBH that she will throw her support to him now. There is a lot of info we all know now that we did not know then, especially us heartless people.

I think she will Support Herman Cain just like most of her supporters are now doing.

No... Not even funny, and I wouldn’t even joke about it. I do not know how to change the culture and their ( like this 47 yr old guys ) behavior. That has to come from within. The country is sick, maybe she had enough...

The only thing I believe, is her explanation for now is an epic fail.

I am sure there are more possibilities as to the why than Carter has little liver pills.

But, if as the wife believes, Palin now goes after that lawsuit against McGinniss/Random House while roping in most, if not all the AK gang into it. If she goes with full vigor to bring down and put an end to the sladerous lies, it will go far to explain her decision. For she could not have possibly pursued the presidency and the legal action at the same time. If she put her and family’s honor first, that would work for me.

Please spare us.

Clicking on threads is an *elective* activity.

If you don't want to hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth, go click on the Friday Silliness Thread or the Undead Thread or a Prepper thread.

And in the meantime, consider dropping $10 or $20 into the FReep-a-thon jar...

Cheers!

I think your comments are thoughtful and indicative of a feeling of great loss for our country. It’s not OLD news as some would say. It’s a feeling that should be remembered. Sarah made us feel hopeful inspite of McCain. We didn’t even know what she was going through at the time.
There is no reason to rehash the whole experience. I’m just thankful for her. Maybe, in moving to Arizona, she has her sights set on something more meaningful than the presidential dogfight. Maybe, if Perry can come out of this as the candidate, he’ll tap her energy for the good of the nation. After what happened in the Senate today, and what is happening on the ground in various cities, I need energetic leadership. I worry about our troops seeing all of this garbage. God bless America. Thanks for your thoughts.
