I am writing to express my displeasure with the decision of ESPN to pull Hank Williams, Jr. from your Monday Night Football opening.
Mister Williams did nothing more than express his opinion on a television show. The last time that I checked, we still have a United States Constitution (I served to defend it in the Marine Corps) and we still have the freedom to express our displeasure with our government and our elected officials.
There never seemed to be an issue with that when President Bush was in office.
Since you choose to ignore Mr. Williams right to free speech, I will no longer watch your broadcasts in my home. Many of my friends share my views on this.
May your ratings follow Mr. Obama's poll numbers.
Sincerely,
X.X.Xxxxx XXXXXXXX, Texas USA
Not sure who that might be. I’m in Australia and don’t get ESPN down here although sometimes I stream it.
I was okay with this use of pink, though..
DING! DING! DING!
We have a winner!
I’m amazed so few FReepers have noted this.
I lost interest in them this year when they became the National Fondling League. I won’t give up constitutional rights for—frickin’ football.

I'm unanimous on that! Wow! Put pink on women and stop the chickifying now! I can't stand it!
I didn’t see where he was fired, only that tonight they weren’t playing his song. Did I miss something?
Glad you mentioned the Dixie Twits. The complaint against Manes was more that she said her criticism of the President in a foreign country rather than at home. I think that is what pissed us off more than what she said.
Where are the Dixie Chicks today? Huh?
As for Tobey Keith, he rules! I put a CD of his “Red, White and Blue” in my son’s Army jacket which he left at home before he went to fight in Iraq.
Gave the CD to him the day he arrived home.
As for Hank Jr. - He’s got balls which is more than ESPN has, including those they use to play football.
His old man’s really proud of him!
I propose that Hank Jr, Ted Nugent and Larry the Cable Guy put together a travelling show. What a hoot that would be and the only flags that would be flying there would be “the Red, White and Blue”.
‘Zactly, and that is why we aren’t going to watch.
Whatever dude. This about a double standard that nothing would have happened if Bush was in office. Go to hell EsPN liberal scum.
Your right to free speech ends at the entrance to my property. You have no right to enter my property & embarrass me or my guests. You have no right to represent me in public & say things that reflect badly on me without losing that representation.
ESPN has every right to censure or fire Williams for his bad behavior. The First Amendment applies ONLY to gov’t, not private businesses & individuals, & rightly so. Freedom of association implies the freedom of disassociation. ESPN did exactly what I would have done - fire the drunken bum.
I don't like the Obama Presidency any more than Williams does, but making a jackass of yourself on national TV doesn't exactly support your views.
All this kind of stuff does is give Liberals grist for their propaganda mill, & reflects badly on all conservatives who support this gravel mouthed fool.
ESPN lost my interest when Rush was canned years ago as a football analyst.
ESPN markets itself here there and everywhere including school students who have ESPN magazines distributed in their schools.
No one said we wanted a damn fairness doctrine. We just want to call out ESPN for the lib scum they are. Why must you keep trying to deflect this rightful anger?
Of course there’s double standard in the media. No disputing that. But I specifically commented on the threadmeister’s contention that somehow Hank Junior’s first amendment rights were violated by the firing. They weren’t.
I like many others mute the TV and listen to the race on Sirius radio channel 90.
NASCAR made a big mistake when they got hooked up with espn rather than broadcast TV.
He was talking about the gross political theater that is Washington's major output. He started by clearly stating that the Democratic Party as it has been acting is our enemy. That's right - E N E M Y. This knocked the Fox hosts back on their heals.
Bocephus the said that the golf foursome earlier this year involving Obama, Bonier and others made as much sense as a golf game involving Hitler and Netanyahu.
The comparison he was driving at was we should expect nothing from the photo ops being passed around by the LMSM as progress. He's right. How can two strongly divergent political philosophies resolve their differences in the time it takes to play 18 holes?
BTW - the ONLY person that I heard on Fox and Friends saying the Bocephus compared Obama to Hitler was one of the hosts - not Bocephus.
Wonder if Fox and Friends will ever post the entire link of the interview?
You look more the Jerk than Hank. Myself and many on here totally support him.
“No one said we wanted a damn fairness doctrine. We just want to call out ESPN for the lib scum they are. Why must you keep trying to deflect this rightful anger?”
I’m all for writing letters, boycotting ESPN, etc
But my problem is with the words in the OP “Since you choose to ignore Mr. Williams right to free speech”
He has the right to say whatever he wants. He just doesn’t have a right to a job with ESPN (or anyone) if he says whatever he wants.
