Recently I wrote an article about women's tendency to support statist candidates. As my emails attest, it was met with quite a positive response. Yet, not surprisingly, there was also a very predictable one: complaints about generalizations. For instance, one respondent wrote that she was tired of the "all men are this and all women are that" tripe.
Of course, people only complain about generalizations when they hear one they don't like and, perhaps, are unable to refute. But you can rest assured that they generalize just like anyone else; in fact, generalizations are woven so seamlessly into our thinking and discourse that we often utter them unthinkingly as a matter of course. Just consider how often people say things such as "Why do men never ask directions?!" or "It drives me crazy when guys flip from one TV channel to another rapid-fire!" But do all men do these things? I always ask directions and hate the habit of using a remote control like a musical keyboard. Nevertheless, I'll be the first to admit that those generalizations are clearly valid.

Not all women do that, just as not all blacks vote Obama, but clearly many do.
Heh, most men don’t stereotype women; there is little need to stereotype the norm. Most men will try to go with the flow, nod a “yes dear, no dear, I’m sorry dear” when appropriate and stay out of trouble. It doesn’t take long to realize that doing your best might never be enough so you continue to try because you love her and hope for the best. The guys who don’t figure this out quickly are doomed to a life of misery because they haven’t learned that even if you are right about something it is wrong for you to say so and arguing your point is a losing proposition; know when to shut up and nod a yes dear. More often than not the argument is heavily based on feelings and emotions rather than logic or the willingness to argue on the basis of the logic so trying to take this approach only digs a deeper hole. That said, I have been fortunate. My wife of 39 years has shown some of those traits but more often than not she is reasonable and open to compromise and logic, even on petty things (and most issues are petty) like who controls the remote.
OK, flameproof suit on.
LOL - well I’m not there yet, almost in a relationship but too independent to carry through right now. But your post is interesting from a guy’s point of view. Funny how we have the same perception.
I am happy that you chose the word “many” instead of saying “all” women are insecure. May I elaborate? Thank you. Many women are insecure because they put their trust in a man. The man broke their heart, mind and spirit so the outcome is a insecure, whining specimen. A shell of a woman without fortitude, self-respect or control over her own mind. There are those of us among the female gender who have a backbone. When things go wrong we snuff it up and run to the nearest filling station to get directions out of town, we drive to our next destination singing, I AM WOMAN.
With a bow to Professor Henry Higgins: “Women are irrational, that’s all there is to that/their heads are full of cotton , hay and rags/ they’re nothing but exasperating, vasilating , calculating , madding and infuriating hags’’ And I think I’ll end right here. :-)
... consider kindness and gentleness character flaws, and sincerity a cardinal sin?
(And why will they respond now denying the above is true, when it is?!)
The Democrats have a saying, "When women vote, Democrats win."
Interesting statistic but flawed.
Most blacks vote democrat and tend to be liberal. Most black women are single. They vote liberal. This skewers the "single women" vote.
Most black men can not vote for reasons of felony conviction. This tends to skewer the male vote in the other direction.
This produces a flawed result.
When you break it down by race, men and women of the same race, economic and marital status tend to vote along similar lines.
“”It drives me crazy when guys flip from one TV channel to another rapid-fire!”
I’m a girl and I do exactly that. I also must hold the remote in my hand at all times while watching tv.
_________
I do that too. I also flip to something that I’ve recorded
like a bio from Bio channel when commercials are on.
Can’t stand the endless commercials.
I drive people nuts who try to watch TV with me. LOL
