"60 Minutes" goes to "South Park"
CBS News ^ | September 23, 2011

They still haven't found a line they won't cross. The latest taboo busted wide open by "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone is religion. It's a comedic assault on religious dogma called "The Book of Mormon" and it's currently the hottest show on Broadway.

Steve Kroft talks to the pair about that musical comedy and brings "60 Minutes" cameras to observe the creative process that's kept the foul-mouthed school boys of "South Park" at the top of the basic cable television heap for years.

They didn’t cross the Muslim line.

Episodes 200 and 201.

And when the parts of those episodes that were supposed to show Mohammed were censored by Cartoon Network, Parker and Stone ridiculed the Network by inserting black screens with text that said "Comedy Central has refused to broadcast an image of Mohammed on their network." Park and Stone had also portrayed Mohammed in the Episode "Super Best Friends."

NetFlix has removed the streaming episodes, iTunes has pulled the episodes, and the Comedy Central DVD "South Park - The Complete Fourteenth Season" has had Episodes 200 and 201 removed (although they appeared in the first release(s) of the DVD set. I don't remember all the details. I think the BBC may have even refused to show 200 and 201 the first time around, but that's just an old guess.

So Parker and Stone crossed the line . . . but the first showing was partly censored and everybody in the world has tried to make those episodes disappear down a black hole.

Yeah they did, multiple times. Once censored by their network.

As other FReepers have pointed out 146 times...They did with the “Super Best Friends” episode.

Just keep it on the down lo. They don’t want to be threatened with a fatwa like Salman Rushdie.

“It can be crude; a piece of dung once served as the main character for an entire episode.”

Mr. Hankey has appeared in several episodes...
