Rick Perry, I like you. But a little word of advise. You are not going to get very far by calling your audience heartless. That word is exclusively owned by Democrat campaigners. They could sue you for plagarism.

One good thing the zero has done is to educate people in spotting overhyped under qualified career politicians. I thought perry was but thought he wouldn’t be the frontrunner if he was as big of dolt as he appeared to be. There must be some substance behind the exterior good
Old boy exterior. It’s clear now when pressed he appears petty. When he should defend his position he smiles like a Alan Colmes.

Well, if Mama dont’ get in ..I think I’d be ok w/ Rom. AT least he answered the illegal tuition answer well enough ...

Never Romney!

The man will not stand up for us. We need someone that loves our country enough to stand up to both sides of the aisle to protect our country and the ideals on which we were founded.

I have no doubt that good ol' Mitt will do the 'popular' thing, but that usually means more of the tearing down of America.

The GOP is stupid for having all of these debates, nothing good is coming from this, other than to make them all look like bumbling fools.

That’s why Palin is right to stay out of the fray right now.

He is smiling, because he is setting this all up and he knows what’s coming (the ad blitz against Romney)

And all of you Romney lovers are going to be sitting there going... but... but... Romney OWNED him in the debates! How can Romney be 20 points down! impossible!

Because while you are watching debates, the other 99% of America is watching American Idol with back to back Perry commericals between scenes hammering Romney for the liberal RINO flip flopper that he is.

BTW, why don’t they ask Herman Cain questions? I heard him at a Tea party and I liked what I heard.

Because he's a small government conservative with a great background who would clean Husein's clock in a one on one debate. He'd also neutralize the race card, so the MSM will kill him with silence.

Sorry but Perry slit his own throat last night with his "You have no heart" line. People don't WANT to coddle illegals OR their children.

I think that I’m going to wait to see who’s doing better out of Cain, Newt and Backmann. (Yes, I still have a tiny bit of unrealistic wishful-thinking hope for Bachmann...)

Out of these three, whoever’s in the lead a the time of the primaries gets my vote.

Will Perry be able to ask for commercials to replace him in a debate with Obama. Or will he actually have to debate Obama one on one.

Listen. I am someone who supported Perry (look it up). But if you can't admit that he came off real bad last night, you are blind. And I am not putting the nail in his coffin. There is time. But he needs to get with it.

In this media age, debating skills have come to mean more than actual ideas or leadership skills.

Perry’s positives are considerable (much more than some of his...err, detractors...on FR are willing to admit), and his negatives, while serious, are not sufficient to rule him out in my book.

His biggest problem at the moment is that he definitely stinks at debating, and this may end up sinking him. The average voter is very shallow and emotion-driven when it comes to evaluating political candidates.

All things considered I do like Perry, but I really mean what I put in my tagline. If Palin jumps in and is ahead in the delegate count when the Tx primary comes along, she’s got my vote.

Fernwood2Night is a classic, largely due to brilliant writing and acting by alumni of Chicago's Second City, like Fred Willard.

As for the debate last night... uggggh. Ptooey.

I think Perry revealed himself, and not in a good way. My view of him from the beginning has been a little jaundiced: there's just something phony about him; his words are never quite in synch with his expressions, and his policy positions are announced, alternately, with odd emphasis or with mealy-mouth words. In either case, he doesn't come off as genuine.

Romney didn't improve his standing much in my view either, because I've never viewed him as genuine or truly conservative, and in that respect, he did not disappoint.

Herman Cain is great - love him. The man has ideas, a real heart and a passion for ideas. But I don't know if someone so inexperienced at politics can stand up to the Wall of Bullshit that is Obama.

Newt Gingrich is brilliant as always, a million ideas heading in a million directions - which is why he is not suited for the Presidency; the job requires focus, decisiveness, prioritization, and... a lot less personal baggage to get there in the first place.

Gary Johnson had the best line of the night (re: Obama's "shovel-ready jobs"). I think he stole it from Rush Limbaugh, but it was timely.

no, I agreed that Perry did poorly. My point is, it doesn't really matter.

Nobody watches debates.

Perry walked in the frontrunner and even though he did poorly he walked out the frontrunner.

Just wait till the next slew of polls comes out, and you'll see Perry still hoovering around 30% and Romney in the low 20’s. Nothing fundamental changed last night, except a few people learned that yep... Perry's not the best debater.

I agree. I like Cain a lot (although not crazy about 9-9-9 - as libs would make it 20-20-20 in no time with addition on new fed sales tax).

But I have always said that Obama has screwed it for future black prez candidates for decades to come (including himself next year).

No matter you political persuasion, everyone likes to be able to criticize the president - without being called a racists.

The whole way he responded was right out of the Rules for Radicals playbook. Accuse your opponent of something totally outlandish, “heartless for not caring about children being educated”, and force your opponent to be on the defensive.
Sounded like a line from an Obama stump speech.

Perry’s advisors are not ready for the big show and Perry doesn’t seem to be either.

Last night was an opportunity for Perry to demonstrate why he was the best choice for the nomination and explain how he would put the country back on the road to prosperity.

Instead he wasted his time trying to knock Romney’s legs out from under him.

He missed an opportunity to put pettiness aside and rise above the pack. To some degree he let himself be baited by questions from the moderators designed to keep him and Romney bickering.
