Rick Santorum: Obama's eligibility is 'solved'
WorldNet Daily ^ | September 17, 2011 | Joe Kovacs

JUPITER ISLAND, Fla. – The Republican presidential candidates appearing in last Monday's tea-party debate in Tampa made plenty of news when it came to issues such as Social Security, job creation and Big Brother mandates, but one subject that was not brought up during the event was the constitutional eligibility of Barack Obama.

Yet once the debate was over, some were willing to address the matter.

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum told WND, "My understanding is that issue was solved. If there's evidence to the contrary [showing Obama is not eligible], they should bring it forth."

The Constitution requires a president to be a "natural-born citizen," which many legal analysts believe means being the child of two U.S. citizen parents at the time of birth.

When that was pointed out to Santorum, he responded, "I don't think that's what the Constitution requires, and he (President Obama) was born in the country, so it doesn't matter."

I'm sure a lot of anchor babies are happy to hear that. :)

By the way, I suspect at the very least Obama was an anchor baby.

Santorum wants to be blissfully ignorant? Whatever. It’s not like he’ll ever be president or nothing.

I've never been a Santorum fan, but I expected better of him than this. Very disappointing.

It feels that way, doesn’t it?

Willfully blind is worse then merely ignorant of the facts.

I'm going to take some heat for this, but Santorum's right.

If Obama's ineligible due to birth, it's up for the challengers to show that he is NOT born in this country, not the other way around. Burden of proof is on the challenger. Secondly, even if there is proof, it will likely take impeachment now to disqualify him, as that's the process to remove a resident of the white house.

As far as the parental citizenship claims meaning natural born, that's not the law. That's a claim made in a few legal theories, but that's not the law.

US v Won Kim Ark is the dominant case on that matter.

An emphatic “no comment!” would have been a far better answer.

Agreed.

birther lunacy

While I agree that Obama's questionable eligibility status should not be an issue for election 2012 (it's been sitting on the lap of Boehner for years now but he failed the American people and refused to look into it).

Thanks to Obama, we are ALL American citizens unless PROVEN otherwise now. The birther issue is no more of a lunacy than being against Illegal Immigration.

You cannot pick and choose how we determine who is legal and who is not here legally anymore than we can pick and choose which parts of the US Constitution we follow and which parts we throw out.

There is NOTHING that proves that Obama was born in the United States. Nothing. Nobody uses a file on computer as documents you present. It's not acceptable. Sorry.

Can anybody still be totally ignorant of these things?

We have maybe a dozen after-birthers right here on FR who are either deliberately ignorant and/or Obama operatives.

I suspect more conservatives have doubts than don’t but the simple fact is that the democrats desperately want to keep the issue alive for their own reasons.

Personally I think its a waste of time to ask presidential candidates about it. It would be far more effective to require proof in the individual states.

Santorum is right. And why pick on him?

I can just hear you singing that old song, "Barack Hussein Obama - mmm, mmm, mmm!"

If Obama's ineligible due to birth, it's up for the challengers to show that he is NOT born in this country, not the other way around.

So, as long as the 20 million illegals in this nation hide their real birth certificates and photoshop on online that's enough. Voila! It's up to the United States to prove they are illegal and not up to them to provide proof they are here legally.

So now it's AMERICAN UNLESS PROVEN OTHERWISE.

Can we say President Soros?

Yeah, he got “you’re” right, but then he had to say “beyong”
rather than “beyond”-—I know, it was a typo, but OTOH, maybe he was going for a Sarah Palin “refudiate” kind of made up word-—he could’ve been going for a combo of ‘being’
and ‘beyond’. And I don’t think a “very, very few” on FR spell “you’re” right, but an alarming number do spell it wrong.Misspellings abound here on FR, so much so that I’ve found I have to be very circumspect when I boldly venture forth to correct someone’s spelling.

I don't have time to argue that with you at the moment, but others will chime in any second on it. That battle's been fought on FR many times, and your view has lost every single time.

Get your flame-proof undies on.

I’m feeling let down. But, perhaps there is a eason for his ignorance. In the last debate he mentioned that he is the child of immigrants. (or grandchild? I wasn’t sure) Perhaps Rick’s parents were not US citizens when he was born and therefore he doesn’t meet the requirement of “natural born” either. Inquiring minds...

THERE IS NO REASON FOR THERE TO BE LAYERS

When Trump insisted to see the long form... I never thought Obama would have released it as a PDF. I thought if he were to show it that it would be the original and not a computer file that anybody here could make today.

I guess if the President can get away with it then it's ok for 20 million illegals to be making their own PDF files online to provide proof that they are Americans.

Oops... I forgot. Somebody in this thread has implied that it's not up to the person to provide proof they are American. It's up to us to prove they are not.

I've been watching a pattern. So far, everybody I've seen on the news in Barack's family (with the exception of his wife and kids) are in this country illegally. HELLO!!!
