People Arrested for Drug Law Offenses this Year
Arrests for drug law violations this year are expected to exceed the 1,663,582 arrests of 2009. Law enforcement made more arrests for drug abuse violations (an estimated 1.6 million arrests, or 13.0 percent of the total number of arrests) than for any other offense in 2009.
Someone is arrested for violating a drug law every 19 seconds.

On the legal side of the WOD it mostly comes from tax dollars, excepting siezed property. On the illegal side of the WOD it mostly isn’t tax dollars, excepting things like welfare involvement.
There’s some good arguments on both sides of the issue. I think it does more harm than good myself. One interesting thing is that the high-ups on both sides of the law would vote the same way as far as ending the WOD: they wouldn’t. Like I said, it creates jobs on both sides of the law and both sides of the political spectrum.

There are no illegal drugs and only the actions taken with controlled substances are considered "illegal" or against the law. Hospitals and doctors use and/or prescribe "controlled substances" every day in completely legal ways.
