The Democratic Partys rare loss of a congressional seat in its urban heartland Tuesday, accompanied by a blowout defeat in a Nevada special election, marked the latest in a string of demoralizing setbacks that threatened to deepen the partys crisis of confidence and raise concerns about President Barack Obamas political fortunes.
In New York, Bob Turner(R) soundly defeated Democrat David Weprin in a House contest that in the view of party leaders, at least featured an anemic urban machine, distracted labor unions, and disloyal voters. In Nevada, a consequential state for the presidents re-election strategy, Democrats suffered a runaway loss rooted in a weak showing in Renos Washoe County, a key bellwether.
Even before the polls closed, the recriminations something short of panic, and considerably more than mere grumbling had begun. On a high-level campaign conference call Tuesday afternoon, Democratic donors and strategists commiserated over their disappointment in Obama. A source on the call described the mood as awful.
People feel betrayed, disappointed, furious, disgusted, hopeless, said the source.
Less expansive but equally telling were the remarks of House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, who in a conversation with reporters Tuesday morning said bluntly that Obama would take some blame for the two special election losses.
I think every election reflects on the person in charge, but do I think it is an overall statement on the president alone? No, said Hoyer. Do I think it will be interpreted as being a statement on Obama? Thats probably correct.
A senior Hill Democratic aide was more direct in attempting to explain the New York loss: The approval ratings for the guy at the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue cratered.
A Turner consultant, Steve Goldberg, validated that assessment: It was all Obama not even a thought of anything else.

Today, (I had to drop by) between crying jags, they were saying such races predict nothing.
Even that Polutico idiot Mike Allen (sp) was in shock.
Anyone watching that excuse for a debate the other night knows that what you say is true... their bias will not allow them to admit it.
LLS
Now our biggest worry is that the dems will run Hillary and the race will be closer than it should be.
Our biggest mission the next few years will be to put rinos in their place. We have to stomp on them every chance we get and let them know they are only there to pass conservative values, nothing else! They have to learn that and there are many ways to get that message across.
Thanks for that post....it gives me that warm felling inside!!!!
That's not going to happen if voters elect a Rhino in the Primary
(1) Congressional pension and benefits,
(2) govt checks for being Scuhmer's aid, and,
(3) govt checks for being on NY's City Council.

Weiner was milking the system while "in sex rehab" relaxing on the beach in the posh Hamptons, and colluding with his backers to finance his future-------perhaps a well-paid sinecure reserved for "disgraced" lifelong politicians who never had a real job (see Eliot Spitzer et al).
Not to forget----Weiner also has $5 million stashed away---campaign donations for his thwarted mayoral ambitions. You have to wonder what the little creep did to get $5 million. The Congressional Ethics Committee (yes, that is a Cong committee) says the money cannot be converted to his personal use. I guess he'll contribute the $5mill to UNICEF to feed the hungry (/snix). But wait.............
HOW TO SPEND $5 MILL CAMPAIGN DONATIONS ON YOURSELF LEGALLY: All Weiner has to do is playact like he's a candidate for some obscure office, buy a mansion as 'campaign headquarters,' luxury cars for 'campaign use'.......pretty soon the $5 mil is all spent. All legal.
Not to forget all those endorsement deals Weiner is lining up:
"I've been using volumizing Pantene Shampoo ever since I was in HS."
This must be sweet music to Herman Cain!!!!
Yeah Weiner could endorse Pamprin, Mydall and a host of other DNC products such as NYC vibrators. He could make a lot of money.
Maybe, maybe not. think about it. How many blacks, gays, union members are going to defect to us?It may not always work like that. At best, for us, they lose enthusiasm and sit home.
If they do that it won’t work - their real problem isn’t Obama, but the obvious and utter failure of the IDEAS that the Left has been pushing for almost a century. We have seen them in action and they suck, and have driven the country to the edge of a cliff. They can run whatever Democrat candidate they want - the people have seen what unrestrained statism is and does - and they don’t want it. I just hope this lesson remains in the minds of the citizens of this country for a LONG time, because we are going to need a long time to get our country back. People have a way of forgetting, and the lure of a utopia on earth will always be there - if only we elect “this” person or “that” party. Hopefully we will have enough time to rebuild our country and economy before that delusional Utopian statist urge rears its ugly head again.
Hell man..this is New York....he'll probably run for Mayor and win!!!!
It will never go away...we have to keep fighting it from here on!!!!
Thank you both.
To get that landslide, the top of the ticket must be strong and conservative, which is why the Presidential nominee must be Mitt Romney.
“Obviously, we must wine the White House as well.”

The White House has been wined as well as dined too well already;>)
