The article referred to the animal variously as a moose, elk, and deer. WTF???The moose (North America) or Eurasian elk (Europe) (Alces alces) is the largest extant species in the deer family.

"The article referred to the animal variously as a moose, elk, and deer. WTF???" What we call a moose they call an elk in Europe generally, and "deer" as they use it applies to a host of ungulates. Our elk is sometimes calłed a stag over there, but may also be called deer.
