Still, I’m glad that they saved her. If it comes down to a choice between my apple tree, or the government's elk (Swedish "moose"), the tree will survive, and the freezer will be filled for the winter.
Apple thievery comes at a price, and trees take a lot longer to replace than an elk.
OTOH, he should have harvested long before they fermented and became a hazard to wildlife.
If you want fermented apples, put the juice in a crock, and add yeast.

Freering the elk is a crime against Darwin. Kill it, butcher it and give the owners some of it. I’ve seen a recipe for venison cook in cider, which seems appropriate. If it is as good as reindeer, it’ll be good eating.
