Dogs have Constitutional rights too.
But much to the relief of people who don't go to bars to get dog slobber on their clothes.
It should be up to the owner of the bar, plain and simple.
That’s one of the many benefits of living in Montana.
Unless you are a nanny-stater trying to justify your phoney-baloney job.
My dog gets served his drink and biscuits before I get my drink in my local, it’s no right!
Happened to my favorite bar, George Keeleys on 83rd/Amsterdam in 2009. They said it was because they also served food. Never heard of the ‘close to beer tap’ clause.
You wouldn’t want my Great Pyrennes in a bar. There would be fur blowing through it like tumbleweeds.
Some years ago, in the 50s I think, the 101 airborne folks in Korea had a donkey for a mascot. They would take him to the bar and give him beer, after he got drunk he would station himself in the door of the bar. Anyone attempting to enter got kicked; anyone attempting to exit got bit. At least I am told, I was in the 82nd Airborne Division.
One of the legal definitions of a “Service Animal” is “one who provides “EMOTIONAL SUPPORT”.
That could cover a LOT of things! LOL!
Ok. I’m betting ADA requires the bars to allow assist dogs. But if having dogs around food is a health risk, why should people be put at risk just so others can bring in their assist dogs.
And if, as I suspect, there isn’t really a health risk, why can’t everybody bring dogs in if the owner allows it?
In my younger days I used to bartend. I never thought about rules, laws or regulations when it came to dogs. All dogs were welcome in my bars. Just keep them out of the kitchen. My dad used to bring his chihuahua down once in a while. That little dog was a chick magnet. (nobody tell mom, okay?)
My husband was in Scotland on business and met an old friend and his wife there. They drove down to meet my husband at his hotel (a renowned one) and left their Golden Retriever in the car while they dined. The owner asked the waitress for some water for the dog. When she heard that he was waiting in the car,he insisted that they bring the dog in, and she served him water in a silver bowl and dog treats on a silver platter.
It is a common sight there, according to our friends. There were dogs all over the dining room, resting calmly at their owners’ feet.
