Don't like Perry? How about promoting your candidates positives?
8/27/11 | Listenhillary

Posted on 08/27/2011 7:00:28 PM PDT by listenhillary

We are adults and most on FR are very intelligent persons. I think we can decide if a candidate is right for us.

How about stop repeating the same Gardasil, Texas corridor, immigration stories over and over and over. Most have seen them by now if they have been paying attention. Most have judged the stories and condemn Perry to hell for them or they think that a president just might have different priorities than a state governor.

Screaming at us in all caps isn't going to change any minds. FR isn't the entire universe of voters. We are a very small pool of voters. If you're hell bent on trashing a candidate, it is likely that your efforts are wasted trying to persuade FR posters to change their minds about a candidate. Start standing out by the road with a sign telling your horror stories, pestering people in restaurants and buying billboards and advertising in newspapers and TV. You will have much more impact.

If you insist on cherry picking the negatives, can we do the same to you reviewing every decision and action that you have taken in your life? How would that work out for you? Honestly showing everything you have done, could you withstand the scrutiny?

I realize some of you insist that we are making a horrible mistake. The primary isn't until next year. Stop screaming. OK?

We took it apart several times. perry supporters ignored it, excused it, defended it, called us liars, bigots, racists, DUers, DNC trolls, but couln’t refute the evidence. Them came right back on the next thread to start the same argument all over again. Been there. Done that.

Perry may only marginally slow this country’s descent into financial hell.

You are exactly right. He would move us into the New World Order just a little slower. He’s a globalist.

It’s working pretty well. I haven’t seen this much cursing on a thread for quite some time.

"Stuck on stupid?" Classy.

Actually, if you do your own research instead of listening to the haters, you will see that the corridor was mandated by congress in 1990, not Perry. As for Gardisil, you're misinformed on that as well.

Who ever you want to, but do so based on all the facts. As I said to Drey, hiding one’s head in the sand does not make them go away.

Nor does getting hot headed when someone points them out.

>> Don't like Perry? How about promoting your candidate's positives? <<

You begin with a false assumption. You assume all of us who dislike Perry have endorsed another candidate for the nomination. I have not and I know many Perry critics in the same boat. One of the reasons most of us haven't is we're not the type of conservatives who fall head over heels for a new candidate the moment they mull a run, but that's what sides us apart from people who got on the Trump and Perry bandwagons early. I know it seems to really frustrate you guys since a common talking point of Perry fans is that EVERY conservative who dislikes him is "waiting for Palin" or a "Paultard", but I assure you that your stereotype is wrong.

I will wait to see how the early primaries unfold before I get behind a candidate. I HAVE ranked the candidates overall by comparing their positives and negatives weaknesses, and Perry lags behind Bachmann, Santorum, McCotter, Cain, and possibly Buddy Roemer on that list. (had Pawlenty not dropped out, Perry would also be behind him on my preference list). If you would like me to compare Perry's record and "electability" to each of the candidates I find superior to him, I would be happy to point out why each is better. But this will take a while and is unlikely to persuade most of the Perry fans on this board as they seem to respond to facts with stuff like "you must hate Texans!!"

>> Screaming at us in all caps isn't going to change any minds. Stop screaming. OK? <<

You might to advise your fellow Perry fans of that, I notice a lot of them screaming "purist!!! you want PERFECTION!" when I state that their candidate has a mediocre record and we can do better. (no, I do not think Bachmann/Palin/Santorum/McCotter/Cain/Roemer are "perfect", nor I am I looking for "perfection"). Again, if they would like to drop the straw man arguments and compare Perry's "electability" and record in office to ANY of the superior candidates, I will be happy to discuss facts. Where would you like to start?

>> I realize some of you insist that we are making a horrible mistake. The primary isn't until next year. <<

Perhaps that is precisely WHY are you making a mistake, by throwing your weight behind a candidate getting alot of "buzz" early in the election season?

>> After Rick Perry gets nominated, the question for you will be this. Would you support Rick Perry for President in Nov 2012 over the Democratic Socialist President Obama <<

IF Rick Perry is the nominee (and I have my doubts), I would gladly support him over Obama. Of course -- that's not saying much, I would support a moldy old shoe over Obama. (if the question is whether Perry would pose the biggest threat to Obama's re-election, my answer is a definitive NO.)

Here's a question for the Perrybots -- IF Perry fizzles out early, do you think you might stop letting the mainstream media tell you who the "viable" candidates are? In 1999, it was Liddy Dole, Steve Forbes, and Pat Buchanan. In 2007, it was Fred Thompson and Rudy Giuliani. In 2011, it's now Rick Perry and Mitt Romney. The mainstream media doesn't have a very good track record at this stuff when it comes to projecting the "likely" nominee based on early polls, but a bunch of freepers listen to them anyway.

Sounds like fun. It would be nice to have a Justice Department other than in name only.

translation: we really, really, really, really, really don’t like it when our candidate gets vetted, questioned or taken to task.

Please don’t pick on Perry...please, please, please, please. We want to coronate him.

Most certainly Perry has some positives in his career, and I would vote for him in an instant over 0bama, but I think we have better alternatives. Much of what is credited to Perry is really the work of the people of Texas and their legislature, God bless them. But we are not electing the State of Texas to the White House, OK?

There aren't any perfect candidates out there. But someone with a repeated record of decisions which are either utterly stupid or (more likely) conscious surrenders to evil in order to get elected by landslide margins, is not what we need!

Bring on the questions, if what you really want to do is to vet Perry; there is no better way to do that then for his doubters and detractors to ask probing, insightful questions and see if Perry's supporters can give reasonable answers to them.

The only thing missing from the mix here are the probing, insightful questions.

>>After Rick Perry gets nominated, the question for you will be this. Would you support Rick Perry for President in Nov 2012 over the Democratic Socialist President Obama... a man who’s got the worst economic record since Jimmy Carter.
<<

Of course we would.

But another question is this: while we are in the primaries, should FReepers stick their heads up their collective butts and ignore the truth about Rick Perry?

Only an idiot would do that. And fortunately, if you look at the screen names, there are only a few of the same flailing idiots advocating just that, while attacking anyone who brings forward any negative facts.

They are on every thread. I repeat, these are idiots.

“Texans know that does NOT mean a border fence,... “

Prove it. Don’t sit there blathering nonsense. Prove it. Now where’s your rebuttles for Perry’s other issues?

BTW, Speaking at LaRaza conferences and granting tuition to illegals isn’t pro border enforcement. It’s pro illegal and anti-America.

Unless you personally want to educate them at your own cost. You are a Professor. You have no excuse not to. Put your money and skills where your mouth is.

I fought hard last go around for Fred Thompson, but As much as I like a cool level headed guy for office I have realized that you need a guy with fire and swagger.

Remember all that BS about Obama’s strut?
The guy was an empty suit but he won the national based on his BS jigga strut

Did he come through for any of his voters? Hell No!
But there he is. Cock of the walk.

Perry has actually done good conservative things, and I think perry can wring obamas proverbial neck on the political stage.

I can’t wait for the debates

I heard the same nonsense about Duncan Hunter: “not getting traction.” Are you just a follower of the herd? A candidate “gets traction” because we the people have the guts to fight for him. I will fight for Cain, Bachmann, or Palin, but not for anyone else now in the race.

Nonsense? Duncan Hunter, solid conservative though he was, didn't get traction because ... he wasn't earning it. Politics isn't a Free Republic popularity contest. America is 300+ million strong.

At a certain point, principles have to give way to numerical reality. The reality is that Cain and Bachmann are not going to be President. They don't have the resumes for it. Palin might, if she jumps in. She was a governor.

That's not being a sellout. That's being cognizant of reality. Vote as hardcore right as you can at the local and state levels. For president, it's gotta be for the most rightward electable candidate. There's no such thing as a moral victory in the big leagues.

Cain and Buchannan simply aren't viable candidates. Palin would be. Perry is. Ain't no conspiracy. That's life.

Really? Once again, not one swinging person on the thread against Perry will say their candidates name. Are you ashamed? Or trolling? This is getting very, very tiresome.

Norm, I give you my blessing to vote for Obama instead of Perry. It won't matter. Perry will be the next president.

For the rest of us, the truth is there for those who seek it. For everyone else, stick to the smears, the troll's tales and misrepresentations, and the MSM.
