Those Dean Martin Roasts are hysterical. They still hold up after all these years.

I loved the old drunk act Foster Brooks did. PC people today would complain if he were still around.

Remember the FB bit as the drunk airline pilot in a bar with Deano? Classic!

Those guys were giants. Can you imagine trying to do one of those roasts today? First of all, the star quality would be entirely lacking. And second of all, the vulgarity would be appalling. To Dean, Frank, Reagan, Bob Hope, and the the whole bunch of them: Thank for the memories.

Dino and Dutch!

Most are kinda phoning it in, but in part 2, Jonathon Winters as Maude Frickert just nails it! Rickles is great as always (and none of what he says would be allowed on any PC television show today.

Reagan gets in some great zingers too.

Thanks for the post and link Pally!

And these guys were NOT PC, which was why they were funny.

Nowadays, every “group” of blubbering crybabies would be offended.

You should see Brooks roast Don Rickles. Hilarious.

Some of the best comedy ever. Now were stuck with SNL or a bunch of potty mouth morons.

Those roasts were great. I remember watching them when I was a teen. My parents and I were almost falling off the couch laughing so hard.

Rickles also did stand up at Reagan’s 2nd inauguration party. It was classic. It was an honor to be made fun of by Don Rickles.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjnJw99AP7U

Can you imagine trying to do one of those roasts today?

Comedy Central tries to do roasts once in a while. Foul mouthed, gutter humor that is pathetic. Nothing will match the class of comedians in the 60's and 70's. Even when Buddy Hackett worked blue, it was far batter than anything the dopes today can muster.

I have known personally all the old Stars listed in this thread, and I can absolutely tell you, that not ONE of these people would give Obama the time of day, my old friend Sammy Davis Jr would have Spit on him, as would most of them, especially Dino and Mr Sinatra. Don Rickles is probabaly the funniest I have met, and he is a hoot to sit down and talk to. If he wasn’t so frail I am sure he would be speaking out, I was over at Bob Newhart’s a couple weeks ago and he is in line with all these old guys, as well as Jamie Farr. None of these REAL MEN would give this clown their ear for any reason.

I think overt Liberalism is corrosive to a true sense of humor. I am of the opinion that it breeds hatred and vitriol that bleeds into their material to the point that anything even remotely funny is killed off.

Sad really.
