"You should not stay. It is unsafe and against the law."
Bloomberg
This incessant fearmongering about any and every storm makes people callous to a future real storm. 24 hour coverage, evacuations, mobilizing the entire emergency plan...
Are we overreacting a little?
Obama to take credit if nothing happens.
Few things struck me over the past few days about this:
1. I guess New Yorkers really do want a nanny mayor.
2. The Weather Channel geeks - not ready for prime time - have milked this for all it’s worth and more to try and be relevant in the nation’s biggest media market.
3. The cry wolf syndrome is definitely being put into place for a future catastrophe.
"Y'really think I'm gonna' let YOU destroy my remnant? Have you ANY idea how many people have been talkin' t'me these last few days?"
"By the way ... I'M still here for YOU if and when you want ME"
It seemed Bloomy thought he was talking to a city full of 9 year olds.
Good advice for New Yorkers even when there's no hurricane, as long as Bloomberg is mayor.
If you do an objective policy analysis Bloomberg ends up significantly to the left of Barack Obama. Shocking but true.
Better safe than sorry.
This sort of hurricane hits nyc every 50 years or so.
There is likely to be flooding on lower manhattan so subways not working etc
Global warming is depriving us of hurricanes!!!! When was the last really big one, 2005? And, for going on six years this is the best we can come up with?
I’m waiting for Shep Smith to report the roveing gangs, snipers on the bridge, coolers full of bodies and such. So far nothing.
(Aren't all storms technically 'historic?' Like all presidents?)
As far as the 24/7 coverage, it's way overboard. I'll settle for .5/1
Out here we call them windstorms and we like them.
If what I’ve read is accurate, this storm is not going to be anywhere NEAR the grade they’ve been predicting. Time will tell, but Hurricanes lose power when they hit landfall. If they bounce around just off-land, they can generate more power, but once on land as they travel they always start powering down. This is not going to be another Katrina (again, from what I’ve read.) In the Gulf States, we have had many “bad” ones in the past few years — Katrina, Rita (same year), and a few years later Gustav which left most of BR shut down for most of 2 weeks. This doesn’t look like anything on the scale of what’s being reported hysterically. Still, people need not to be stupid.
GLOBAL WARMING IS COMING! RUN! RUUUUUUNNN!!!! SOMEONE CALL AL GORE!
Mark Levin had a meterologist on yesterday who was howling that this storm was being hyped way too much. Said that there would be major power outages and some flooding but it would not be the disaster that the media and the weather pimps were hoping for...I guess I would include Shawn Hannity along with the rest of the media hypers.
First, thank you for starting this thread to let us vent. I have been yelling at the TV for 3 days. I have turned it off. It is even ruining baseball with all the cancellations.
I am tired of the duelling press confernces by mayors and governors warning on impending doom. they are all a bunch of fear-mongers. where is an FDR when we need one, ‘All we have to fear is fear itself.’ (I cant believe I praised him, please forgive me.)
Be a Boy Scout. Be Prepared. and take responsibilty for yourself and your own actions. dont expect others to be there when you want them. sorry, end of rant. but that felt good ;)
Chris Christie is no better.
I’s flooding that causes deaths and damage and even 5 inches of rain in a short time can cause serious flooding.
However, the point I think many of you are missing with the threat is New York City is the amount of broken glass people will be dealing with.
As Jim Cantore explained last night, while the winds on the ground may be category one, the winds ten stories up are category two, and those high rise building in NYC are not prepared for that. The winds funneling down a street with tall buildings on either side will suck the glass off the buildings and rain it down on those people below who are outside to show what an insignificant storm this is.
There are going to be plenty of injuries from this storm to people who are not taking it seriously enough.
