Pale faced pretenders often think they have to use vocal gymnastics to be soulful. They end up sounding affected and pretentious. But that’s all right, because so many can’t tell the difference.
Here’s a great white female soul singer:

I don’t use that word nor do I tell other people what their opinion is. AND that word normally is not allowed on FR.
I don’t know much about her other than she was young, very talented and hopelessly addicted to drugs. Such a waste. I don’t know what I would do if I had a child like her. I do know that the pain I would be feeling now would be unbearable.
It's almost as if they feel they need to follow in their footsteps in order to be considered legitimate.
Think about so-called "Outlaw" country singers.....if they didn't booze it up, in the tradition of Hank Williams, how much credibility would they have?
I am not a huge fan of either George Michael or Prince - but I do acknowledge that Prince is one heck of a songwriter.
Both musicians regularly cover Amy Winehouse written songs in concert.
When Prince, who writes songs for other artists, sings your song .......
My best friends daughter is addicted. She’s not sure to what but she shoots up. She stayed with her parents for 3 weeks and stole nearly everything in sight. They finally had the police remove her. When addicted the only thing that matters is feeding the addiction. There is NOTHING admirable in that. But some on this thread want to overlook the truth.

Now I'll address your other points:
No. But you are. You admitted that you liked her music. Fine. But her CHOICES ended her life. She is NOT someone to be "worshiped" in death.
She was more than just a drug addict. She was a talented musician. You apparently can't separate the two. Do you honestly think that people who admires musicians that with drug problems are worshipping their drug use?
Just because you admire their talent doesn't mean you endorse what they're doing in their private lives. I think that Mel Gibson has a lot of acting talent, and I really enjoy watching his movies. Does that mean that I'm endorsing the fact that he thinks I run all of the wars in the world? Hardly.
Yes. For her choices. She should NOT be made out to be a romantic figure.
She was a great musician and her legions of fans won't ever forget how talented she was.
Did she take knowing that they are addicting?
Who knows? Lots of times celebrities go to unscrupulous doctors. These doctors load them up with benzodiazepines or opiates. Sometimes the doses are ramped up too fast and addiction results. Combining these types of pills with alcohol can obviously be quite deadly.
A cutie.
It’s heartbreaking.
I see. So girls with drug addictions should be considered to be whores? Calling a dead girl who wasn’t a prostitute a whore is dishonoring her. You’re seeking to dehumanize her. She was a girl who had millions of fans, and friends and a family that loved her. Do you think they’d appreciate reading your post calling her a drugged out whore? If you don’t, then maybe you should reconsider before you post crap like that in the future.
“Illegal” is the key word.
For instance, heroin is illegal Oxycontin is not with a prescription.
And you worship drug addicts. I'll take my friends any day noob.
She was more than just a drug addict. She was a talented musician.
She threw it away for addictions. Feeding her addictions became more important. She made CHOICES. She is NOT a victim.
Do you honestly think that people who admires musicians that with drug problems are worshipping their drug use?
Are you on this thread defending her lifestyle? Yes.
Who knows? Lots of times celebrities go to unscrupulous doctors.
There is not a soul on this earth that doesn't know drugs are addicting. Stop making excuses for her choices.
You are emotionally invested in whitewashing her lifestyle. That's not gonna happen on this forum.
“Instead media makes her sound like a victim.”
The deaths at age 27 of Joplin, Hendrix, Morrison, Cobain and now Whitehouse are reflected by the media as sad and tragic.
I have never felt the media portrayed them or their deaths in any terms of victimhood.
On the other side are performers that have been clean and sober for over 20 years, like Eric Clapton, Elton John, Ringo Starr, Alice Cooper (and Stevie Ray Vaughan had he lived).
I have read about them, and none call their addictions and alcoholism anything like victimhood.”
If the media does so, it is the media, not other entertainers or their serious fans.
Many recovered entertainers (and other folks too) thank the grace of God for their recovery.
Doing so, they are helping bring others to recovery, instead of condemning them. People in the throes of addiction and/or alcoholism respond best to examples of recovery, not fire and brimstone condemnation.
Someone called her a whore. I defended her and said she had real talent. He accused me of loving abortions. I'm pro-life. You jumped in and said Amy Winehouse is nothing but a drug addict. I said she was much more than that. You said she wasn't. I said she was much more than that and explained that it's possible to appreciate someone while also recognizing that they have flaws. You confirmed your belief that it isn't possible.
Wardaddy, you were right. This is a complete waste of time. Some people just delight in stepping on people's graves after they're dead.
Truth_seeker, I feel you are going to hell for saying that. :)
I was not ever a fan of Joplin, Hendrix and Morrison. Their self-indulgent lifestyles turned me off.
