Who is at fault for Kids emulating her and choosing her as a role model, Amy or the kid's parents?

Pop culture. Adoring, sympathetically written articles. She is held up as a poor, poor victim. She made choices. Bad ones. And I see not only media but CONSERVATIVES making excuses for her choices.

She wasted her life and kids are worshiping her. She deserves condemnation for that. Kids will emulate her. She is NOT a role model and her lifestyle SHOULD be condemned.

I don't think it's your job to condemn her for any sins that she may have committed while here on Earth. That is God's job. While she may have wasted her life, she brought joy to the millions of people that appreciated her music. You obviously aren't one of those people, and that's fine.

Absolutely. It should be hammered that she was talented and made poor choices that ended that talent. Instead media makes her sound like a victim.

You need to work on your reading comprehension. If you bothered to look at that graph, you will see that I am almost directly in the middle BETWEEN authoritarian and libertarian. Oh, but you wouldn't notice that, because you see the word LIBERTARIAN and your eyes bug out of your head.

I pinged those two gentlemen because they are two great posters on this website and it was their polite smackdowns of posters like you that made me want to sign up to this website. I noticed that you pinged a bunch of people to this thread to gang up on me, so I thought I would try to get at least one person in here to defend what I am writing.

Nope. Pointing out that her lifestyle killed her IS my job. Pointing out that her choices were bad ones IS my job.

What isn't my job is where she lives for eternity. THAT is God's job.

“I’m a recovering alcoholic, and can honestly admit that had I obtained access to essentially unlimited wealth in my early 20’s, there’s a very good chance I wouldn’t have made 30 either.”

I’m a recovered alcoholic too, and people from all across the economic spectrum get into a path, and can’t stop drinking themselves to death.

Artistic people seem to have a sensitivity factor which leads them to drugs and alcohol.

She had talent. Had she lived it would be nice to hear her 20-30 years later, when she and her style had matured.

According to he Dad, she wanted to get past alcohol.

But sometimes wanting to and doing it are two different things.

Non alcoholics don’t understand that, and alcoholics understand it all too well.

I used to drink with some guys, that eventually drank themselves to death. By their early 50s, not 27.

Whatever age, it is sad; but not much that can be done about it.

You are personalizing it and that is what makes it horrible. You can make the arguments against drug addiction without making her out to be a terrible person, which your posts did. You said she deserves condemnation. She wasn’t a terrible person, she simply made MISTAKES. You think she meant to get addicted to booze and pills?

"I am neither smug nor superior."

Well, are you also going to deny describing her as, "..an out of control songster twit that just couldn’t handle ‘it’."

Somehow that remark reeks of smugness and superiority with the direct implication that those that can't handle it are somehow inferior...since you're casting the aspersion, it directly suggests that you could 'handle it.' I simply argue that those who can't handle untold wealth and fame at age 20 are average and normal. Those that can handle it are exceptional. For I know, perhaps you are one who could have handled it, and if so, it's great we have such a paragon of virtue here in our midst to honor us at FR. I suspect the truth of the matter simply is that you never faced that kind of test at that stage in your life. Neither did I, and I thank God every day for it.

"We’ve got heroes dying in this country that never so much as get a mention..."

Then wouldn't your time be better served doing something to honor their memory than trashing Amy Winehouse? I guess morally superior folks like you gotta pick your crusades...only so much time in the day.

"...yet we have these classless twits taking up the airwaves and print for days on end who most likely died laying in their own feces and regurgitation."

In that case, if you were intellectually honest, your beef would be with the press and the media rather than Winehouse. Your misdirected scorn and invective (to me anyways) reflect a lack of moral clarity and emotional maturity. I don't like the way the press chooses to cover Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachman either, but I don't lash out at the Governor or Congresswoman over that.

"They said she didn’t die from illegal drugs, nine will get you ten she died from a prescription overdose."

Your moral superiority is rivaled only by your razor sharp insight.

Parents need to spend more time discussing morality with their children. My parents spent very little time on that, and it think it’s a big mistake.

Kind of you to be doing youth a favor by denigrating an obviously troubled dead woman.

It’s nothing new here..being mean..on the internet one can do that.

It must be ..like...purging oneself.

I don’t get it...lest you south bash..I try to be civil.

My wife and aunt are big on her too...as is my number one business employee

She seemed awkward ..liked pushed

I don't think she ever really got comfortable with the fame. She was writing songs at 14 and got really big in the music world at age 20. I think it was just too much for her to handle.

And you’d think that with all of the caustic music out there, all the RAP (which is more properly called CRAP), that encourages misogyny, among other things, that people who care about children would focus on THAT. Amy’s CDs never had Parental Advisory/Explicit Lyrics stickers slapped on them.

No. But you are. You admitted that you liked her music. Fine. But her CHOICES ended her life. She is NOT someone to be "worshiped" in death.

You said she deserves condemnation.

Yes. For her choices. She should NOT be made out to be a romantic figure.

You think she meant to get addicted to booze and pills?

Did she take knowing that they are addicting?

It is. Parents should point out the sadness of a life wasted. And that t didn’t have to happen but that’s the usual outcome of addictions.

“Her last performance is painful to watch. Instead watch how she used to be...”

Thanks for that. Jools Holland introduces some great talents.

Look into Melody Gardot, and Seasick Steve

Two more Americans featured early by Holland.

For Whitehouse and her addiction—not unlike other females in jazz, like Billie Holiday and Anita O’Day.

Simple question before I respond to that: Do you think that it is inappropriate for people to refer to as a whore when commenting on her death?

She's dead because of her choices. Should that be celebrated? Do you believe that one cannot speak the truth about the dead? She made bad choices. That needs to be said instead of making her a victim.
