Because going back to the 60's,70's,and 80's there was good music like the Rolling Stones,The Beatles,Buffalo Springfield,Iron Maiden,Led Zeppelin and such.
Compared to modern music which seems to be mostly about image over whether they can play. I'll take "Stairway to Heaven" over Lady Gaga any day.
Because it seems they have turned the whole music industry into a beauty contest and not if a person can play a instrument like bass, guitar, drums,or such.
Man, I dig that Truckstop Honeymoon.
I like rock and metal. But it seems the same is happening to stuff like Rock and metal now. Every song from Dragonforce sounds the same, and it’s not just the lyrics,i listened to Through the fire and flames and Last Journey home, and it seems both have the same guitar solos. What happened to innovation in music?
I’ve pretty much gone International the last few years, thanks to the Internet, discovered a lot of great stuff from Central and Eastern Europe, especially Polish artists, and other Slavic countries.
I like prog rock bands such as: Pink Floyd, ELP, Yes, Hawkwind, Uriah Heep, King Crimson, Strawbs, Dixie Dregs, Renaissance, Jethro Tull, Focus, Starcastle, and the Alan Parsons Project.
OH YEAH!!! Saw them do it live in 73.
Yeah, so did I. And I saw it again just a couple months ago — nearly 40 years later — in Concord, CA. Fabulous!
Don’t for get that you music was crap to your parents and their music was crap to theirs.
I’m still a fan of Rock and Metal, it’s just that the vast majority of it sucks. When something new that’s worth a crap comes along I use it up. The hard metal bands with the screaming crap annoys me. Give me some heavy guitars with a real singer and I’m in. I want to hear the dang lyrics. The heaviest I can stand these days is Theory of a Deadman and August Burns Red (occassionaly when beating out some serious code). Tastes change when you get older I reckon, but I’m chomping at the bit for a new Nickelback album.
Recently picked up a CD of Aretha Franklin. Re engineered version of an album of hers from 1967.
Respect and chain of fools. Simple arrangements but her voice is really strong. Introduced that music to my high school daughter’s friends. Should have seen their eyes at that.
You’re listening to the wrong stuff. Look up A3, modern, very good. Then there’s the whole Celtic movement, young Dubliners, Seven Nations, Dropkick Murphy. In metal there’s Monster Magnet. And then there’s the old farts still kicking around doing great music like Nils Lofgren and Alice Cooper. Don’t pay attention to the top 40 crap, throughout history the good music is rarely popular, look at the Billboard Charts from the era you think was nothing but awesome you’re going to find a lot of Paul Anka and other vile crap. Good music tends to build a small audience and keep it.
If you mean music that is being released today then I would say that there is plenty of great stuff from which to choose. You just have to look around a little.
I heard some Garth Brooks back in his heyday that was really great lyrically.
That new song about hearing voices all the time is cool, to.
IMHO Garth sux and he’s a flaming lib. That Chris Young song is a good one. That deep voice reminds me of Trace Adkins a lot. You want excellent harmonies, good time arrangements, and down to earth lyrics try some Zac Brown Band. Brilliant! Every song’s a hit. If you want something with a lot of Country Music wisdom, go with The King - George Strait. He’s 59 and still topping the charts with his 39th album being released next week. Wow!
Can I suggest some blue-eyed soul from down Iowa-way? Check out “The Diplomats of Solid Sound featuring The Diplomettes” (2008) - especially “Come in my Kitchen”?

or Hacienda’s “Me Da Um Favor” from 2000’s “3rd Door Left” LP?

or Johnny Adams’ “Half Awake (Baby, You’re Still a Square)” from 1996’ “One Foot in the Blues”?
or Frank Popp Ensemble’s cover of Sam Paglia’s “Stripper Girl”?

or the rave organ funk of Chris Joss’ “Monomaniacs Volume 1” (2010)?
Thumbs Up :)

I feel exactly the same way about Jethro Bodine
