That Anthony Bourdain sure knows how to get people talking. The "No Reservations" host sounds off on other food stars in TV Guide Magazine.
He has the strongest words for Paula Deen. "The worst, most dangerous person to America is clearly Paula Deen," Bourdain says. "She revels in unholy connections with evil corporations and she's proud of the fact that her food is f------ bad for you [...] plus, her food sucks."

Bourdain obviously has a lot of free time on his formerly drug-stained fingers. :/
Paula Deen’s food makes my heart hurt looking at it. I’m going to have to go with Tony on this one. Deen seems to have a schtick where she just tries to make everything as fatty and nasty as possible. It is almost like that old joke on the Simpsons where they started a restaurant that deep fried everything including the salads. Her stuff makes Scottish fried food look healthy.
At least Tony isn’t calling for a nanny state regulation over her food. He has been pretty outspoken against the food Nazis in New York.
I saw bordain as a judge on Top Chef. He is an arrogant, self-absorbed SOB.
He probably just made these statements because he thinks he should be head of the Cooking channel.
Versus
I know where my money is.
Well the guy forgets that what she cooks is based on what is cooked in the American south.
Both are liberals but Bourdain is open about his hatred of America.
Tony is Howard Stern with knife skills and culinary training... or, Gordon Ramsey with NY/Jersey accent instead of British.
BTW, I disagree about Paula Deen. If you ate her stuff every day you'd be as big as a house. But it looks delicious to me. As Julia Child once said: "I'm always in favor of butter."
Anyway, the Motel 6 brings back pleasant memories for me from the early 1980s when I did not have a lot of money and so on vacation, I'd be looking for a Motel 6 sign where I know they would have a reasonably clean room for a decent price. One time, the manager yelled at me because I took too much ice from the ice machine - I was using it to fill the bathtub so I could keep my beer cold.
“Her stuff makes Scottish fried food look healthy.”
Ahhh! But have you tried her Southern deep-fried Haggis? A real taste treat!
I follow Tony on all his shows and also on eGullet where he is a pretty active forum member and I don’t see him hating America.
He also strikes me as pretty libertarian. He is constantly trashing hippies, he has gone to war against the food nazis in New York, and you should have seen the show with him and Ted Nugent.
Now, he isn’t conservative.. he is socially libertarian on a lot of things, pro drugs, pro open borders, etc so I’m not putting him on a political platform.
If I have learned anything in my rather long life it is that it is very unwise to pi$$ off a southern “Lady”. Very unwise!
Bourdain is a complicated individual.
I've followed all of his books and television shows since 2000. He's a liberal, arrogant, self-absorbed SOB, who also making scathing and to-the-point remarks about liberals and leftists, and who is frequently self-loathing and more than frequently self-effacing.
He seems to get along with just about everybody in person (particularly if the ethnic alcoholic beverage is around), despite their political views. He certainly had a good time with Ted Nugent, and Ted Nugent seemed to have a good time with him.
If I had the choice of spending one day with him sampling foreign restaurants or cooking with Paula Deen (I turn off Paul Deen within fifteen seconds), I'd pick Bourdain. But I think one day would be as much as I could handle.
And the difference between Bourdain and Deen is that Bourdain is/was a chef (CIA trained). Deen is a cook.
I stopped watching her when she said she LOVED Jimmy Carter!!! YUKEROONEY!!
I remember the first time I saw Paula Deen on tv having no idea who she was, she was pouring butter into shot glasses, and then taking shots of melted butter. I was like, “What???”
