Man accidentally shoots himself in both legs with gun called 'The Judge' while driving

One gun-owner learned the hard way not mess with 'The Judge' when driving at high speeds.

The 23-year-old man accidentally shot himself in both legs when he reached for his firearm, named 'The Judge', while driving on an interstate in Tennessee, authorities said.

Police who responded to the man's 911 call for help yesterday found Justin Newberry 'wailing in pain' and in need of immediate emergency attention. The gun had apparently slid out from under Mr Newberry's seat when he reached traffic and hit the brakes on his Nissan Altima on Interstate 24, about 50 miles north-west of Nashville.

As he reached to retrieve the weapon, he accidentally grabbed it by the trigger and the gun went off, sending a 410 slug through his right thigh.

The bullet exited and then went into his left leg, just above the ankle, a spokesman for the Clarksville Police Department said.

Mr Newberry pulled into the median and called emergency dispatchers.

The lightest I’ve gotten a DA pull on a Smith & Wesson was about 8 pounds. That involved a lot of work to still be reliable. It was a 1959 25 no dash initially chopped and tuned at a Midwest smith, and then I smoothed it up some more.

This guy was just being stupid. Plus, I don’t get the whole “Judge” thing. Looks like a solution in search of a problem to me.

I would prefer a nice .38 snubbie (Detective Special if I had my 'druthers)

The DS is a great gun. Just a touch larger than the Smith J frame but with an extra round. Thanks for the reminder to get another.

If you can deal with the slightly larger size a Smith 19 in 2.5” is great ( especially a 19-2 of 3) or a 696, which is Squantos approved.

I think you just solved this one.

I bet that hurt.

It is a shame that we allow such moronic people to own high quality weaponry.

"By the way, at my first time at the range with the Judge, at 10 yards, using Winchester PDX1 .410 “Defender” Elite (2-1/2”) shotshells, I got a golf-ball area pattern of the three coated disks, and the twelve BBs were within a basketball-size area around the disks."

If you don't use a pure slug, buckshot or .45 Colt...it is not an effective man killer.

Unless you're willing to wait a week for them to die.

Good thing he didn’t have a gun named ‘Darwin,’ it would have shot him in the head.

There is a .410 ga slug? And this is better than a .45? Why?

My dad has a '70 vintage DS. Six shot +P he carried for Governors detail in a nice suit. About the time I graduated HS and I gave him a Bianchi upside-down rig for it.

Nicest shrouded ejector snubbie I have ever seen, and Colt blue... He still won't give it to me...

The K frame snubbies are nice, but bigger. Around the '80s there were some really nice "melted" versions. I would take one now for the right price (not likely!)

> Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction

> Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot

> Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use

All good. And may I add... "All guns are loaded."

Sure, some aren't. But the one you're messing with -- always assume it's loaded.

Clearly this Jackwad has had neither
Cooper rules nor NRA training.

It should have been in at least a
pocket holster with a covering
over the trigger guard..
