Man accidentally shoots himself in both legs with gun called 'The Judge' while driving

One gun-owner learned the hard way not mess with 'The Judge' when driving at high speeds.

The 23-year-old man accidentally shot himself in both legs when he reached for his firearm, named 'The Judge', while driving on an interstate in Tennessee, authorities said.

Police who responded to the man's 911 call for help yesterday found Justin Newberry 'wailing in pain' and in need of immediate emergency attention. The gun had apparently slid out from under Mr Newberry's seat when he reached traffic and hit the brakes on his Nissan Altima on Interstate 24, about 50 miles north-west of Nashville.

As he reached to retrieve the weapon, he accidentally grabbed it by the trigger and the gun went off, sending a 410 slug through his right thigh.

The bullet exited and then went into his left leg, just above the ankle, a spokesman for the Clarksville Police Department said.

Mr Newberry pulled into the median and called emergency dispatchers.

It should have been in a pocket holster with the trigger covered.

Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction

Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot

Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use

I have one of these guns. It certainly isn’t my carry gun, though-—it’s almost as big as I am—LOL!

Hmmm...I'm thinking the marijuana and drug paraphernalia played a large part in this. As Red on the 70's Show says, "Dumb @ss."

The only safety for a revolver is the human brain.

Revolvers don’t have a safety.

No safety on that one. It’s a revolver.

The safety is between your ears.

I have a Judge.

Double action: you have to apply pretty deliberate pressure.
Single action (cocked) not, so much, of course.

I’m guessing he had somehow cocked it prior ro getting to the trigger. He could have been playing with it while driving . . . a No, no, of course.

By the way, at my first time at the range with the Judge, at 10 yards, using Winchester PDX1 .410 “Defender” Elite (2-1/2”) shotshells, I got a golf-ball area pattern of the three coated disks, and the twelve BBs were within a basketball-size area around the disks.

Unless The Judge is cocked, it has quite a heavy trigger pull. When reaching down to pick something up, I don’t exert nearly enough force to activate the trigger on my Judge.

I wonder if he was drunk or high.

A person does not “accidentally” pull a double action wheel gun trigger. Stupidly perhaps...
