Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Awesome story of a true hero. My bet would be that he was also a vet. Thanks for sharing that. Prayers for all involved in this horrible accident.

Alcoholism is an affliction that affects good and bad alike.

Sounds as if this was a good man that just couldn’t get it together. But at least once it can be said of his life that he was the right man, in the right place, at the right time.

God rest his soul.

Sounds like he followed the path of St.Dismas, the Penitent Thief. It’s never too late to turn to God.

How a man dies...

How a man lives.

Many substance abusers are not bad people. They are often self-medicating due to anxiety, abuse or other personal/mental problems.

“Failed Persons Last Heroic Act”

When the right moment came, he didn’t fail. God bless this man.

Life’s huge disconnect between station and honor is somethimes baffling;

I once worked in an honorable field that took great stock in their noble purpose; along the way it’s true they made a great deal of money.

In this elite corporate environment I noticed something funny:

The people most given to pronouncing that, “it’s not about the money...!” in fact were the most acquisitive and treacherous —realllly black-hearted, greedy people.

And the unassuming mass who quietly, routinely went about their jobs with no such public pronouncements were highly honorable, just like the claims of the first group.

Sometimes the people most adept at helping others are rather bad at helping themselves.

I’d only disagree with the thread title...by his final act, he proved he wasn’t failed...just human.

God Bless Him.

I am guilty of forgetting that bums are human beings too. They are perhaps more flawed than myself but still capable of doing good.

This doesn’t mean that I buy into Liberal plans for helping them. Just giving
them money isn’t going to help them. Giving them opportunities to turn their lives around may. How each of us can do that may vary, but you can bet your bottom dollar we as individuals can come up with better plans than the giverment.

The Native Americans place great importance on dying well. I’d say this man died well.

Thank you for sharing this. Too many people not only sneer, but enjoy sneering, at street people. It’s a huge moral crime that they will someday answer for in full before God. People forced to the street live lives we don’t even impose on convicted criminals. Drug addiction and alcoholism and mental illness are not lifestyle choices - they are illnesses. To not be grateful to God for not having such afflictions is to court spiritual lessons that should be avoided at all costs.

Some say this person did a good thing at the end of his life, so that he “made up” for being a homeless drug addict.

I say that if he wasn’t a good person all along, he wouldn’t have had the spiritual power necessary at the end of his life, in the last moment, when there was no time to think, to save the child by sacrificing himself.

Leftists capitalize on the moral arrogance of conservatives. If more conservatives look with Jesus’s eyes upon street people, and acted on it through churches and private actions, the Left would be deprived of their claim to the moral high ground for the poor - and their massive claim on tax money for bogus and enslaving social services - and they’d finally be destroyed as a political threat. That’s why collectivism bases itself on helping the poor and downtrodden - Jesus’s most pointed focus.

It’s not that Jesus loves street people more than anyone else - He was WARNING us. He was saying, look, if you are fooled by how these people look, and use it to bloat your arrogance because of financial differences, that will be your downfall.

Satan hits at hypocrisy - always. It’s his favorite target, because God won’t stop him. It’s not arguable. It’s like building a boat - if the water leaks in, there’s holes, no matter how hard you tried. That’s why Jesus also taught compassion and forgiveness, because without them we can’t face our inevitable hypocrisies and heal. When we choose denial and scorning condemnation, we live in fear of Satan’s scorning condemnation if he finds us out.

Thus endeth the sermon.

A long-time homeless alcoholic, that would show up regularly at the ER.

I don't know much about religion but I believe the life long torment this poor soul endured was all part of God's plan.....

Funny how thing's work out isn't it?
