Vanity - Failed Persons Last Heroic Act
Self | 17 AUG 2011 | Self

My wife is a physician at the local ER/Trauma Center. Yesterday she told me a story that reminded me that everyone has the ability to be noble.

We had a horrific accident here that involved a car plowing into a group of pedestrians, crushing them against parked cars.

One of her hospital's "frequent flyer" substance abusers was killed in that accident. A long-time homeless alcoholic, that would show up regularly at the ER.

According to several eye witness accounts, his last act was not to run or shove, but to grab a young child (no relation to himself) and toss them out of the center of the impact area, planting himself firmly in the oncoming car's path. He was crushed.

The child is expected to fully recover.

God have mercy on his soul.

I am guilty of forgetting that bums are human beings too.

I despise panhandlers because they jade people to the real plight of the truly homeless. Many are very disturbed and tormented people that need real compassion and help. They often have mental issues that are tearing them up and keeping them from being able to deal with 'normal society'. Which is not at all the same as some jerks that found they can hang out a couple hours a day at some intersection where tourists drive past and make a mint.

Thank you for sharing this. Too many people not only sneer, but enjoy sneering, at street people. It’s a huge moral crime that they will someday answer for in full before God. People forced to the street live lives we don’t even impose on convicted criminals. Drug addiction and alcoholism and mental illness are not lifestyle choices - they are illnesses. To not be grateful to God for not having such afflictions is to court spiritual lessons that should be avoided at all costs.

Some say this person did a good thing at the end of his life, so that he “made up” for being a homeless drug addict.

I say that if he wasn’t a good person all along, he wouldn’t have had the spiritual power necessary at the end of his life, in the last moment, when there was no time to think, to save the child by sacrificing himself.

Leftists capitalize on the moral arrogance of conservatives. If more conservatives look with Jesus’s eyes upon street people, and acted on it through churches and private actions, the Left would be deprived of their claim to the moral high ground for the poor - and their massive claim on tax money for bogus and enslaving social services - and they’d finally be destroyed as a political threat. That’s why collectivism bases itself on helping the poor and downtrodden - Jesus’s most pointed focus.

It’s not that Jesus loves street people more than anyone else - He was WARNING us. He was saying, look, if you are fooled by how these people look, and use it to bloat your arrogance because of financial differences, that will be your downfall.

Satan hits at hypocrisy - always. It’s his favorite target, because God won’t stop him. It’s not arguable. It’s like building a boat - if the water leaks in, there’s holes, no matter how hard you tried. That’s why Jesus also taught compassion and forgiveness, because without them we can’t face our inevitable hypocrisies and heal. When we choose denial and scorning condemnation, we live in fear of Satan’s scorning condemnation if he finds us out.

Thus endeth the sermon.

I don't know much about religion but I believe the life long torment this poor soul endured was all part of God's plan.....

Funny how thing's work out isn't it?
