Sarah Palin on Immigration (in her own words)
On the Issues ^ | Updated Aug 2011 | Sarah Palin

Supports a path to citizenship, but no amnesty for illegals

Q: Should undocumented immigrants all should be deported?

A: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant - there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants - not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue.

Q: Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 million undocumented immigrants?

A: No, I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. We have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.

Q: So you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?

A: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

=====

Took no action on Alaska's "sanctuary cities" Lou Dobbs notes that at least two of Alaska's cities have been officially designated as sanctuary cities: "An August 14, 2006 report produced by the Congressional Research Service listed 31 cities and counties that have 'don't ask, don't tell' sanctuary policies in place. They [include] Anchorage, Alaska [and] Fairbanks, Alaska. Alaska and Oregon both have state-wide policies that forbid state agencies from using resources to enforce federal immigration law."

Apparently, this is by design from the highest levels.

In fact, a resolution to that effect was passed in the Alaska state legislature in 2003 (before Palin's election): "[Alaska] House Joint Resolution 22 - May 2003: Establishes that state agencies and instrumentalities may not use state resources or institutions for the enforcement of federal immigration laws, which are the responsibility of the federal government."

It’s not clear whether Gov. Palin has ever weighed in, pro or con, on Alaska’s sanctuary policies.

Tightened restrictions on illegal alien's drivers licenses

There has been an ongoing fight in Alaska over drivers' licenses for illegals. A bill banning drivers' licenses for illegals passed the Alaska state senate in 2003 [before Palin was elected governor]: "JUNEAU (AP) - The state Senate approved a bill that tightens the standards for getting a driver’s license by requiring applicants prove they are in the country legally and by placing time limits on licenses for legal aliens."

The measure did not pass into law. In any event, Palin's DMV subsequently tightened the administrative regulations on drivers' licenses, thereby giving rise to a lawsuit by some folks who found the new restrictions inconvenient.

...There's a lot of that during election time. The so-called cons knowingly or not use "rules for radicals" tactics. I think its #4, attack your opponent, talk over them ect...

...It's not debate, it's mob rule, and there's a lot of it to come on FR and elsewhere. Deal with it the best you can...

I understand that, of course. But to infer that Palin would not mind her daughter being raped is even beyond that.

I can’t think of anyone who hasn’t been called names, or called others names in return or called the names first. Maybe there is such a sainted one or three here, but I don’t know.

Jim gives all of us a lot of freedom, but I think we all know when we’ve gone too far, or at least we ought to know.

I’ve mostly been told about the heated wars that have taken place over the past few days, because I’ve spent the vast majority of my time on the FReepathon thread, where I will devote my time today.

We are already into Day 46 or 47, and that’s a real shame, given that every poster enjoys FR and yet, not every regular poster who can afford to, contributes.

Jim does his level best to be fair and he does an excellent job. His moderators are also excellent. I wouldn’t want their jobs.

In my view, there are very few truly nasty posters and in time, I think they’ll eventually get banned, but again, that’s out of my realm. I will either ping Jim or hit abuse whenever I spot one of their nasty, vile posts if I think those posts are disruptive to FR and to our fund raising goals. Running wild and trying to drive off good, loyal FReepers just can’t be permitted, IMO.

You’re right. I am still open to learning more, but Pamela Geller’s column is a stunner.

NO catering to the *Religion of Peace*.

I had enough of that with the last Texas Governor/POTUS.

When politicians lie or compromise once...all indications are they will do it again...Palin is no exception.

You seem to have the idea that I’m singling out Palin...

...take a deep breath and chill dude.

Indded. Totally out of line and reflective of a sick mind. Hardly *conservative* on thios conservative forum.

That's HATE speech, that belongs at DU, NOT here.

Listen Mr Bunny, a VP candidate has to agree with the lead on the ticket. Actually Dan Quayle disagreed with Bush Sr on several issues but couldn’t say so. It is the way it works. The lead candidate LEADS.

...I've been guilty of continuing some flame posts, only because the debate turns into a shout match. It happens. I just try to stay reasonable, it's not worth the waste of time...

...which is exactly my point. You just don’t seem to get it.

Palin like other politicians is willing to compromise or lie, which makes the likelihood of it happening again very high whether in a team OR alone. Once again...it’s not just her...

Sarah Palin: "You deport them".

...IF they "follow the steps" of Palin's plan which allows them to work.

onyx, you are quoting 2 words Palin said and ignoring the fact that she said in the same interview "and if you don't follow the steps that at some point through immigration reform we're going to be able to provide, and that is to somehow allow you to work. If you're not going to do that, then you will be deported." Jeff Head's transcript also omits the part of the interview in which she contradicted what she said earlier in the same interview. The first part of the interview was "deport them" but later she was allowing them to work if they "follow the steps."

If you don't have so much invested in Palin that you refuse to listen to her own words, listen to her talk at about 3:15. She allows the illegals to work:

Video of Palin O'Reilly interview 7-9-2010

I usually agree with Palin, think her support of conservative candidates is great, and I wish her well in life, but she is all over the place on immigration.

Thanks for the post Charles. I have serious concerns about guest worker programs, but Canada's program sounds like a step in the right direction. Right now a lot of our "temporary" visas are permanent because of abuse of the system. (As Obama's illegal aunt proved, all you have to do is keep appealing deportation until you win.) On the other hand, a similar program here would require a huge effort.

See also my comment about Palin's "allow you to work" comment on O'Reilly in 2010. LINK

I think Palin's idea to convert illegals to guest workers after they "register" is wrong.

And what's with you people's inability to use quotation marks? Astericks are for footnotes/endnotes. Pitiful. It's like you're all part of a has-been gang or something.

ROTFLMAO!!!

Thanks for the grammar lesson there DRey, by the way, you misspelled asterisks *astericks*.

On a further note your **endnotes** should be two words or hyphenated and your ***has-been*** shouldn't be hyphenated, but two words.

I myself don't worry about minor mistakes in grammar like that, but they seem to get your panties all up in a bunch, so I pointed out your ****pitiful**** errors.

Oh, nearly forgot.

Your "you're all part of a has-been gang or something" sounds exactly like something a typical little liberal/progressive/know it all snot would say.
Just pointing that out because it really hurts your conservative image............LOL.

Y'all have a grammatically correct, properly punctuated and *astericks* free day now :^)
