Sarah Palin on Immigration (in her own words)
On the Issues ^ | Updated Aug 2011 | Sarah Palin

Supports a path to citizenship, but no amnesty for illegals

Q: Should undocumented immigrants all should be deported?

A: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant - there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants - not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue.

Q: Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 million undocumented immigrants?

A: No, I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. We have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.

Q: So you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?

A: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

=====

Took no action on Alaska's "sanctuary cities" Lou Dobbs notes that at least two of Alaska's cities have been officially designated as sanctuary cities: "An August 14, 2006 report produced by the Congressional Research Service listed 31 cities and counties that have 'don't ask, don't tell' sanctuary policies in place. They [include] Anchorage, Alaska [and] Fairbanks, Alaska. Alaska and Oregon both have state-wide policies that forbid state agencies from using resources to enforce federal immigration law."

Apparently, this is by design from the highest levels.

In fact, a resolution to that effect was passed in the Alaska state legislature in 2003 (before Palin's election): "[Alaska] House Joint Resolution 22 - May 2003: Establishes that state agencies and instrumentalities may not use state resources or institutions for the enforcement of federal immigration laws, which are the responsibility of the federal government."

It’s not clear whether Gov. Palin has ever weighed in, pro or con, on Alaska’s sanctuary policies.

Tightened restrictions on illegal alien's drivers licenses

There has been an ongoing fight in Alaska over drivers' licenses for illegals. A bill banning drivers' licenses for illegals passed the Alaska state senate in 2003 [before Palin was elected governor]: "JUNEAU (AP) - The state Senate approved a bill that tightens the standards for getting a driver’s license by requiring applicants prove they are in the country legally and by placing time limits on licenses for legal aliens."

The measure did not pass into law. In any event, Palin's DMV subsequently tightened the administrative regulations on drivers' licenses, thereby giving rise to a lawsuit by some folks who found the new restrictions inconvenient.

proven to be the most polarizing and unfavorable political of the recent past.

You're talking about Obama right?

No, dude. Read it again. For some reason you think YOU represent the voters of this country. You don’t. You are out of touch. Poo is happening that doesn’t fit with the Tea Party.

“A hardworking Mexican kid18 or 20 who snuck up to the states, rent a super-cheap motel room with two friends, and get — and hold on to — a 40-hr-week job as a dishwasher in a Denny’s — you had better bet your ass that that kid is going to show up for work. Chances are he and his roomies are sending most of the money back to Mexico to their families.”

I’m well aware of this. Eliminating the minimum wage isn’t going to change this situation. The competition is still there, except now, this kid gets the dishwasher job.

What incentive is there to hire a kid who has an entitlement mentality, doesn’t work, doesn’t produce over someone who does work hard and produce?

As a business owner who am I going to hire?

I agree, eliminate the minimum wage, but that’s not going to lessen the competition. If anything the competition will be higher because many immigrants who are unskilled will be able to find some kind of work available for dirt cheap.

The only thing that is protecting many American workers is the minimum wage because the unskilled labor has to work hard enough to make up the value of minimum wage.

Eliminating it altogether, well, now you’ve got that slacker competing with the same folks but for less pay. There’s never any incentive to hire bad employees, as long as there are harder working folks out there, those folks will get hired.

It’s not like there’s anything to be risked by talking tough next to Canada.

It's like, we're not in imminent danger of being overrun by millions of feral beavers bearing undocumented donuts from Tim Horton's, eh?

Cheers!

“Perry NEVER said he was in favor of giving illegals a path to citizenship”
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

And, so far, he hasn’t said that he would NEVER sign an amnesty bill.

If he does not make an iron clad pledge to NEVER sign an amnesty bill, then he is unfit (as a conservative) to be
POTUS.

When SB 1070 was passed in Arizona, Rick Perry said that kind of law was “not right for Texas”.

Ol Rick need to splain just WTF he meant by that.

How condescending. How pretentious.

Kinda the pot calling the kettle black DRey.

Anyone reading your posting history knows how obnoxious you are to posters you can't defeat in a debate.

You're the last one that should be criticizing anyone concerning being condescending or pretentious.

I am a declared Perry suporter. And, welcome all the scrutiny he will get in the coming days, weeks and months. That is fair game. And, may the best candidate win the nomination and hopefully that nominee will beat the communist infesting the current White House.

However, it is fair to admit that there is more “deference” given to Palin on this forum than any other candidate.

No worries. The political process in our country has a way to sort it all out in the end. I am still a believer in that system (despite Obama win in 2008( and will let it work its magic.

Just for fun, can anyone find out how many of the new jobs in Texas are really jobs which came from California firms relocating (zero-sum game, no actual organic growth)?

Cheers@

Onyx, I am in complete agreement with you. I did NOT know there was a discussion about “flame” wars, but am painfully aware that they are going on. As I said, it is disgusting how grown men are trashing a candidate. I have been checking in all day to defend my own candidate, Perry (2012), who is UNDER SIEGE.

E-Verify doesn’t work against the illegal’s gold standard — fake i.d. = E-Verify does not work.

Still making excuses for Open Borders / Pro-Comprehensive Immigration Reform Perry?

If E-Verify doesn't work, why do the Democrats do everything in their power to defeat it, to defund it?

Also, it may not be 100%, but it is effective. Should we just throw it away or should we use every tool at our disposal?

Your Pro-Illegal Immigration roots are showing again DRey.

That is ALSO one of the most ridiculous things I heard. If you are SO DISCONNECTED from the top of the ticket on positions, WHY IN THE WORLD would you accept a VP nod?

PLEASE! Come up with better excuses.

If Palin had known this, I doub tshe would have endorsed Perry

That article is from way before she endorsed him. And we all knew about that charge here, way before she endorsed him.

Why are you saying that Palin was ignorant of the facts when she endorsed Perry? Why are you attacking her like that?

Palin Posts:

Post 53 OOooooohhhh. So it’s okay to say one thing and believe another for an election, is it? Why, she’s no better than Perry!

Post 92 :There is no difference in what she did and what Perry did. “Get real.” They are all politicians.

Personal attacks on Palin supporters:

Post 59 : How condescending. How pretentious.

Post 73: Liar.

Post 79: No. You started it. She just posted a relevant article to all the Perry haters who are out in force on FR. This is disgusting.

And then your tone changed. Interesting.

I have a good buddy who lives outside Dallas and was out here (So Cal) a few months ago on a job interview. Of course I asked him "isn't Texas the state with all the new jobs?" to which he replied "what they don't tell you is they are all minimum wage"....

I read it. You think Perry supporting muslims is A-OK because we elected one.

You'd better read that article. Seriously.
