Man Throws Potatoes at Woman in Walmart, Police Say

A 36-year-old man accused of assaulting a 66-year-old woman inside a Walmart remains in the Sarasota County jail today in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Venice Police arrested Steven Renard Grant on a charge of battery on a person 65 or older late Tuesday night.
Officers say that Grant approached the woman inside Walmart, 17000 Tamiami Trail, and claimed to work for God. When the woman told him she did not think so, Grant reportedly told her she was going to Hell, screamed profanities at her, pushed her shopping cart and started throwing potatoes from the produce section at her.
Other customers reportedly came to the woman's aid until police arrived.

Oh yeah-potatoes upside your head are funny! Have someone crack your cranium with one and then tell me it was fun!
Good thing it wasn’t canned potatoes,eh?
Individual grapes MIGHT have been funny, marshmallows or bread,maybe-but unprovoked, violent, screaming ASSAULT is NOT funny.
If the ‘nutjob’ had been a Muslim, attacking the woman because of her dress, or ‘offensive’ religious symbol- would everyone look for the humor?
There is a change of attitude I’ve noticed on FR of late. Lots more sarcasm and snarkiness about serious things. And the underlying snobbishness re. WalMart is disturbing. I daresay almost everyone posting here has been a ‘WalMart shopper’. Is the Obamanation’s promotion of class warfare working?

Thanks for the amusement. Sometimes you just have to laugh.
I shop at Walmart and find the pictures at people of Walmart hilarious. Why, because it is so true. We rank Walmarts in my area on how likely the clientele would be featured on People of Walmart.

Do you not see the irony in someone who "claimed to work for God" using violence against another human? That is in itself funny. Deserving of mockery. Some call it gallows humor. Black comedy.
Your post exhibits a good degree of being *Sanctimonious: making a hypocritical show of religious devotion, piety, righteousness, etc.*; Coming down on nickcarraway, for posts and a story, that are made, for which he has no control, by a bunch of FReepers who are known to blow off steam on threads like this, after all the awful news of any given day, makes me wonder if you think *mocking* [ something mocked or derided; an object of derision] is somehow wrong.
I direct you to the definition of Gallows humor and not the least of those employing its use was William Shakespeare.
You remind me of the lady in the article; instead of walking around/ignoring the nut job/i.e. thread, you choose to make a comment. Expect potatoes. Ta da.
