One of the main components that youll want to have around the house (or apartment) during a SHTF situation is chlorine bleach. Not only can it be used for cleaning water (although boiling is hands down more effective and healthier) it is excellent for keeping things sanitary.
Unfortunately, the average shelf life of liquid bleach (being stored between 50 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit) is around 6 months. After that, bleach will lose 20% of its strength at around the year mark and then 20% each year after that. So if youre not vigilant about keeping it rotated, chances are when you need it for disinfecting water or to keep things clean youll be fresh out of bleach and luck.

Sorry, didn’t think that would show up here.
That’s what is being discussed in the article, Calcium Hypochlorite which you can easily find as pool shock at your pool-supplier store or Walmart, just make sure what you get hasn’t had an algaecide added to it.
I think too many people have a very distorted view of history...especially Christians. As a Church Historian...I can give you a little bit of perspective if you ever want to learn. These times in which we live aren't near as decadent as the times of the early Church Fathers....and the left didn't bring about the popularity of the "S" word.
Thanks, printed it out.
I guess I’ll be hearing from the moderator soon.
This technique (for using silver in drinking water) was used and attested by settlers in the Old West - the purer forms of silver money that they used should work fine. 90% silver coinage would (I guess) have been a high-end silver % for the 1800s.
Cholera and amoebic dysentery have probably killed more people than all the wars of history, combined.
I suspect it is a large contributor to why infant mortality has been so high in the past.

WTF? MFWIC? SNAFU? FUBAR!
YGBSM! DILLIGAF? I think NOT!

(If anyone has to ask - don’t)
Meanwhile, back to the blog.
I plan to teach my Girl Scouts how to make oil lamps and wet tinder starters!
People did not use this language in public and when writing for the public, anyone older than 30 has been able to see the degradation of our cussing barriers.
The left did bring about this open cussing in everyday writing and public discourse and entertainment.
It is infantile, anti-conservative, and definitely not Christian as you want to convince us.
“If I cannot buy bleach what makes this person think I can find the substances to make my own?”
The idea is to buy substances to make the bleach NOW, since they have a longer shelf-life than the bleach itself. Then, when you need them, you will already have them.
Sh!t hits the fan.
I guess I post this now before this thread gets pulled for the bad language.
For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:
http://www.tomeaker.com/kart/preparedness1i.pdf
For those of you who havent started already its time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.
I think that we are at the very least in for a collapse much like that of Argentinas ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yerKMQc7-w&feature=grec_index), but as a armed society with a very large entitlement minded population our collapse will be much more violent and I see many many small business wiped out by flash mob looting, and large scale violence we are seeing this in the flash mobs as they grow bolder and bolder.
I see what I call Pocket Pogroms taking place in many big Blue cities and if you arent a 0bamamite yutes its going to get Reginald Denny bad for you very quickly.
As the LDS say When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.
Or as the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3
There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger.
Underestimation can be fatal.
For years, I have been saving the lint from my dryer. Seriously!
I have a wad of it about as big as a basketball.
I also have about twenty egg cartons (minus the eggs, which I et!)
Now all I need is about 2 lbs of canning wax to make more fire-starters than U can count.
I agree with you. I have competed in athletics from age 9 until I graduated college. I have always been around that kind of language but I never liked it.
Neither of my parents ever used any kind of profanity, so I guess that was the way I was raised. Now I knew some pretty good people who cussed like a sailor so I just ignored it but like I said, I never liked it and still don’t.

I prefer filtration for water as filters have an indefinite shelf life versus chemicals that do not.
“When settlers moved across the American West, they would purify a container of water by putting a silver dollar in it overnight.”
http://doulton.ca/silver.html#chlorine
Not that it stopped diptheria...but
The colloidal silver stuff has me concerned about turning my family into smurfs
But your comment will lead me to do more reaidng on this subject of purifying water in emergency conditions
Thanks!
The phrase has worked its way into common usage. While I agree that language in the written form has deteriorated, it is very naive to think the spoken variety...amongst cohorts...has never been filthy at times. This is preppers writing to preppers. Basically friends writing to friends...not what you are making it out to be.
And again...I never said "Christian"...and it is un-Christian to lie about that. Right?
