Jackie Onassis believed that Lyndon B Johnson and a cabal of Texas tycoons were involved in the assassination of her husband John F Kennedy, ‘explosive’ recordings are set to reveal.
The secret tapes will show that the former first lady felt that her husband’s successor was at the heart of the plot to murder him.
She became convinced that the then vice president, along with businessmen in the South, had orchestrated the Dallas shooting, with gunman Lee Harvey Oswald – long claimed to have been a lone assassin – merely part of a much larger conspiracy.
Texas-born Mr Johnson, who served as the state’s governor and senator, completed Mr Kennedy’s term and went on to be elected president in his own right.
The tapes were recorded with leading historian Arthur Schlesinger Jnr within months of the assassination on November 22, 1963, and had been sealed in a vault at the Kennedy Library in Boston.

You guys all got this whole thing wrong. Kennedy’s assassination was Bush’s fault. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the Koch brothers and the Tea Party weren’t involved also.

Amen...and it could ONLY happen in Dallas Texas where he had complete control. This could never have happened anywhere else in the country.
The Kennedys were and are white trash.
The liberal mind has a serfish compulsion to get down on one's knees and bow before some sort of "royalty." Why anyone would mistake the Kennedy crowd as royalty instead of sleazy grifters is beyond me.

There could be any number of reasons the tapes were released right now. I was a senior in HS when JFK became president. There’s no doubt I would have voted for him if I could. He and his family were young and attractive. He was intelligent and quick sense of humor. He was a war hero with a bad back to prove it. The images of his son crawling around his desk in the Oval Office were priceless. His short administration was literally Camelot. Finally he was struck down by an assassin.
By then I was convinced Daley’s Chicago machine stole the election for him, but what the hell—that was politics. Also, we knew about his father’s bootlegging past and his Nazi sympathy. But what the hell. That was the father not the son. And we had the numerous, physically attractive and talented Kennedy clan cavorting on their Hyannis Port beach playing touch football. His Catholicism was forgotten and we all reveled in the Camelot sunshine as it was breathlessly reported to us by the media.
After Kennedy’s assassination Camelot’s dark side began to emerge. JFK’s ubiquitous womanizing. Then RFK’s assassination. Looks like he was the most moral of the bunch. Then we watched the ongoing Ted Kennedy train wreck. We all wondered what Jackie could possibly see in an ugly Greek shipping tycoon but we forgave her because she and her children were Camelot’s survivors. Beginning with the Johnson years being an American became progressively more depressing. But we had JFK’s Camelot years to hold on to and look back on.
Now it turns out Jackie may not be the purity queen we wished her to be. JFK Jr. is dead having never really achieved much. The bloated Teddy continually demonstrated a total absense of a moral compass. He even got away with murder.
So very very sad.
Jackie O didn’t “know” either. Instincts are not objective proof.

But when you guys waste your time on baseless unprovable, yet in your mnd unfalsifiable, accusationing, you reveal more about yourself than you do about LBJ or anyone else.
I agree with you. I think Johnson was a poor President and at times a rotten human being, but to accuse him of involvement in the assassination is ludicrous. If Jackie really said this, it was probably out of bitterness and grief.

The article mentioned how, after the bribe to ABC, she was pissed that the series still was widely available.
But why parade this around for the world -- she has children. She likes this out their about there about her mother, their grandmother? This makes no sense at all. It's being used for political purposes. It says she agreed to release them. Who wanted them out there now?

FTR, Kennedy was murdered on Fri, Nov 22, 1963. By the assassin, I assume you mean Oswald. He was murdered on Sun, Nov 24.

I still hold in my mind along with all the other speculations/theories that possibly JFK was assassinated because he dared to print millions of authentic USA dollars which would be in competition against Fed Reserve dollars that are really owned/controlled by international bankers such as the Rothchilds. This international cabal wasn’t about to let a renegade USA president upset the applecart set up years ago under Wilson to control the USA economy.
The usual motives would be money, power, revenge, sympathy, attention.
Absent any information to the contrary, I’ll go with money for $500, Alex.
Don’t think there are any players left in the LBJ family that she is trying to embarrass.
Don’t think she is trying to jumpstart a failed political career and if she were, this would seem a funny way to go about doing it.
Caroline is really a very private person and presumably not someone who is an attention whore.
Absent any new information, I’ll go with the most handy explanation is that there is a need for cash and this is a convenient way to raise same. Cash which would go directly to here side of the family and wouldn’t have to be split umpteen ways.
I’ve always believed this. Furthemore, back in the day — before alternative media — not only did the hardcore left get away with assassination, but they even spun it into a big gun control bill.
