I just felt a hard jolt. The whole house shook. It felt something like a hard bump. My whole family felt it.
Anybody else in North Texas feel it?

I imagine its pretty dry up there where you live, could have been some subsidence kicking in big time in your immediate area. That actually makes sense. It's extremely dry here.

Maybe your home's foundation cracked? Seriously.
There was an article in the Ft. Worth paper within the last week or so about home foundations cracking. Apparently it is a common thing in north Texas at any time, and the recent heat and drought have made it much worse.

Be sure to look under the bed, maybe a big hole developing. I heard of this happening before. Never heard of a sinkhole developing in this part of the country, but anything's possible, I guess. I just took a walk around outside to inspect, and everything appears normal.
This is a real head scratcher. If it was just me, I'd chalk it up to the effects of working in 106 degree heat all day, but all my kids felt it too.

In the morning look for cracks in your driveway, patio, etc. Could be sudden subsidence as others have speculated.

Are there any propane tank farms in or near your municipality? What you are describing is sounds very much like what we experienced some time ago when a propane tank farm blew up. Well, I'd have to check the local news about that. There very well could have been some explosion that was too far off for us to hear. And yes, it did feel like something large ran smack into the house.

Maybe your home's foundation cracked? Seriously. North Texas is the broken foundation capital of America. Hard to find one out here that isn't cracked.
Still, that's something worth checking. I'll have a look tomorrow when it's daylight. Thanks.

In the morning look for cracks in your driveway, patio, etc. Could be sudden subsidence as others have speculated. Will do. Thanks, HB.

We call it an earthquake in CA.

The USGS now shows a 2.6 event for the Dallas area. Aha!
When I first felt it, my first thought was that it felt like about a 3.0 quake. They're so common in SoCal (where I'm from), that you can figure the magnitude pretty closely, after a while.
Thanks for the data. That may be it.

We hadn’t even been drinking, and we thought the world was coming to an end. It was spooky. We never read anything about the phenomenon.
Luckily there was two of us.......
I have been to the British Virgin Isles and did drink on the beaches while there. And, yes there were two of us and the sand did move under us.
