• "Already many vehicles are consuming 20 to 30 liters of oil per 100 kilometers instead of the normal half liter of oil." - LVII Panzer Corps

• Kostenko's 6th Army tries to fight out of encirclement near Uman to the east while Ponedelin's 12th Army attempted a breakout to the south.

• Reichenau's forward elements reach the outskirts of Kiev but are stopped by Vlasov's 37th Army.

• Total casualties on the Eastern Front since the start of BARBAROSSA now number 266,352 with Army Group Centre having 88,400 of those casualties.

• The Kwantung Army is ordered to avoid any border incidents with the Red Army.

They certainly didn’t keep the meeting between Churchill and FDR secret for very long. Of course at this point it’s just speculation by the press.

I noticed the story of the Greek guardsman at the Acropolis. Looks like the Greek Council in New York, Nicholas G. Lely, was who told the story in America at least. I really wish we knew whether or not it was true.

August 6:

"In Belgium, a collaborationist military unit, Legion Vlaandern (Flanders Legion), is established."

"Dozens of German soldiers observe Jews murdered as a result of the Ternopol, Ukraine, massacres in July 1941.
Several of the German soldiers cover their noses with handkerchiefs because of the odor of the decaying corpses.
German military commanders exploited local antisemitism wherever their troops went, egging on hateful locals and encouraging German soldiers to participate in the violence.
The Ternopol pogrom began on July 4, just two days after German troops took the city."

"About a third of the population of Minsk, Belorussia, was Jewish by the time the Germans arrived in June 1941.
The city's Jews were confined to a ghetto beginning in July, and executions and deportations took place with metronomic regularity.
