Dolly Parton responds to Dollywood Splash Country T-shirt controversy
Knoxville News Sentinel ^ | August 2, 2011 | Wayne Bledsoe

Rarely has a T-shirt been the cause of such a national discussion. Now Dolly Parton has weighed in on an episode at Dollywood's Splash Country in which a same-sex Knoxville couple were asked to leave because of the shirt one of them wore.

"I am truly sorry for the hurt or embarrassment regarding the gay and lesbian T-shirt incident at Dollywood's Splash Country recently. Everyone knows of my personal support of the gay and lesbian community. Dollywood is a family park and all families are welcome," said Parton in the statement.

While Parton did not apologize for a park dress code policy that forbids offensive T-shirts, she did conclude: "I am looking further into the incident and hope and believe it was more policy than insensitivity. I am very sorry it happened at all."

While a meeting was initially set up between Odom and Tipton and Dollywood officials for Aug. 2., Dollywood called off the meeting because Odom and Tipton wanted to include Jasmine Beach-Ferrera of the Campaign for Southern Equality.

Call me “Really Late” to the party but .. What does ‘Open Marriage’ mean?

I know that she was rumored to have had a thing with Kenny Rogers a while back?

“What does ‘Open Marriage’ mean?”

It means that Dolly and her husband had an agreement with each other to have sex with others.

No wonder she and the homosexuals get along so well.

Either “_______ is go gay” is unacceptably rude and politically incorrect, or it isn’t. Gays need to take a vote and settle this question one way or the other. Then get back to Dolly on this one.

nah, minorities are excluded from pc standards.

You knew this was coming. Parton is not country. She’s Hollyweird.

Dolly Parton responds to Dollywood Splash Country T-shirt... controversy..
"Everyone knows of my personal support of the gay and lesbian community".

Uh actually no I didnt know that. Disappointed to see that even the usually outspoken Dolly is afraid to stand up to the pressure of forced acceptance.

Why would you assume that she is afraid to stand up?

The music and film industries are full of queers; it's a cinch that she knows a bunch more of them than you or I do. Maybe she actually agrees with the queer movement.

Odom said they wanted Beach-Ferrera to be present for "support and clarity" and to help represent their positions.

"We are gay, and we thought the shirt was a nice way to express our pride in what we are"

Is that so hard that they actually needed a 3rd party advocate to "represent their positions". Are they that clueless about why they wore a shirt that they need someone else to explain it for them?

Do they normally require someone else to explain how they pick their outfits? I hope the children don't need a professional dresser.

#####

Allow me to offer “clarity” about my position.

You are nothing but shit-disturbing perverts looking to undermine the foundational family unit on which western civilization was built.

Productive people of good will, do not have time to engage in disruptive “activism”. I’m guessing your are useless “educators” protected by some hate-filled lesbian cabal at whatever academic institution you infest.

I can provide more clarity if you desire.

I love Dollywood. They have an actual CHRISTMAS celebration, and they do actual christian plays and music, and christmas carols.

Here's a link to a column I wrote back in 2008 after my first family visit to Dollywood:

Another Tender Tennessee Christmas

I feel sorry for atheists. Not just because they have no relationship with their Creator or because of the eventual eternity of separation from God. They don’t even have a symbol for their belief to display for the holiday season.
...
My family is spending the days before Christmas in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, at the Dollywood theme park. They put on a huge Christmas celebration here, and they don’t mind calling it Christmas. They have four million lights and a dozen shows and attractions, some with decidedly religious messages.

At first, I felt uncomfortable, wondering how they could call Jesus our Lord and Savior in a show without getting protested. I am so conditioned to worry about avoiding “offense” that I couldn’t enjoy a celebration of my own beliefs.

But hearing people sing, speak and express their faith and beliefs openly with love and respect soon warmed me up despite temperatures that were below freezing. It was refreshing to not feel embarrassed about the message of Christmas, to watch a public nativity play, to actually attend a chapel worship service in a theme park.

Yes, they have an actual chapel in the park, and my family attended a worship service in the chapel, complete with hymns and a reasonable sermon.

So while I am put off by Dolly Parton's support for homosexual marriage, I will say that, as of 2008 anyway, Dollywood was one of the most Christian-friendly public theme parks I had ever attended.
