A little over 10 years ago, I was TDY at Camp Rilea, Oregon which is situated on the little corner of land where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. One morning I went for a run on the beach and came upon the end table-sized head of a basking shark which had washed up on shore. It was a somewhat surreal experience at first, but made perfect sense when I noticed a few Orcas frolicking in the water a few hundred yards offshore.
